Hindi Classes/ accommodation

by travellie

hi -
Im going to Delhi in Feb/March for an internship and would love to do an intensive Hindi course while I'm out there - does anyone know of good language schools?

Also - will be looking for accommodation for 2-3 months. What would the best options be?

Thanks!

Hi - check some of the Delhi expat sites:

http://www.delhiexpat.com/Default.php
http://www.internations.org/expats/home/india/new_delhi

You can google "Delhi expats" for additional info, but the first link seems to be the main expats group. I'd go ahead and join/sign up now. Their help will be invaluable as you prepare to move and I'm sure they'll be able to recommend accommodations. Enjoy India!

Travel Tips for New Delhi

Don't go...

Hunting for antiques or souvenir

by yadiyasin

In the Janpath street, there are a lots of these kind of shops that sell various souvenir items and antiques, such as old gramophone, leather belts & wallets, elephant carved stone, bronze lamps, shiva figures and clocks, etc. You have at least need to know how much the item will cost you so you can bargain on them. For a start, try to bargain 30% of the price they offer, and walk away to force them to lower their prices. After doing that for several shops in there, you can get the approximate price. Depends on what you buy

'Beras bulir Panjang' peas pulao :)

by ukirsari about Bhatia's

Indian cuisine has unique way in cooking rice. Using lamb and butter becomes 'Rice Biryani' and using several kind of veggie and meat [red meat or chicken] and spices so called 'Pulao' [read as phlao]. My fave here is peas pulao. Rice cooked with peas and butter. I like the texture of rice, which is quite different with type of rice in my country. We called it 'beras bulir panjang' [nahhhh, there's no translation for this. But I can describe it: Indian rice is 'taller' compared with Indonesia's]. Yummy!!!!

Red Fort

by cancian

After transfererring his capital to Delhi from Agra in 1638, Shah Jahan commenced the construction of Shahjahanabad, and little later, on the 16th april 1639, he also laid the foundation of this citadel, Lal-Qila or Red Fort.
