Lodi Gardens
by Nprawira
Lodi Gardens is like an oasis in the middle of a desert. Most of the who's who of New Delhi spent their jogging and yoga hours in this beautifully landscaped garden. Its pathways are nicely lined with trees with subpathways leading to some tombs and a mosque. In the northern end of the garden is a pool and a stone bridge called Athpula or 8 piers that dates back to the 17th century.
The President Clinton Feast
by NedHopkins about Bukhara
We had to do it. My son and I are both die-hard Democrats. We had to eat in the restaurant that Bill Clinton said is so good he 'wished [he] had two stomachs.'
We ordered the President Clinton special: 1800 rupees (about US$42) for two.
There came hors d'oeuvres, soup, salad, and then a huge platter of meats -- sausages, various cuts of lamb, several chicken pieces.
My son, the big eater, got through about a third of the platter. I didn't do nearly so well.
When our waiter offered us dessert -- 'it comes with the meal' -- we two sweet-lovers both declined.
Everything was delicious -- beyond delicious, in fact -- and the meat platter offered the most succulent flesh I've tasted anywhere.
We left Bukhara with an enhanced appreciation of Bill Clinton's appetite for food.
UPDATE
Bukhara made the 2006 list of "50 Best Restaurants in the World," the first and only restaurant in India to gain that distinction. Having eaten in three of the others -- and thus having a small basis of comparison -- I heartily concur with the experts' judgment.
>>Europe-based Restaurant Magazine recently revealed the 50 Best Restaurants in the World for 2006, chosen by an international panel of chefs, food critics and restaurateurs. The panel was divided into 20 voting regions from different parts of the world, each with its own small jury. In total, 560 judges cast 2,800 votes for the best restaurant in their region and in the world.<< The President Clinton special (for the reasons given above).
Lodhi Gardens Picnic
by lynnehamman
This peaceful green oasis in the middle of Delhi is a must see.The lawns and gardens are well kept, and despite the many people who use this garden and park, it was very clean each time we walked there.
It is popular with joggers, and many people do yoga in the mornings. A great place for a picnic, the trees give much needed shade from the sun. Like Central Park in New York, this is a "People Space-" and families congregate underneath the trees with a picnic basket. Students catch up on reading. Most people just stroll around enjoying the scenery
The bird life is prolific.
These Gardens were created in 1936, where a village had formerly stood. They were named Lodhi Gardens after a ruler Sikander Lodi, whose tomb stands in the gardens.
Another interesting tomb within the gardens is that of Mohamed Shah- it is the oldest structure within the grounds.

Cathedral of the Sacred Heart
by Willettsworld
The Cathedral of the Sacred Heart is one of the most important Catholic Churches of the capital. Henry Medd designed the church, though initially eight architects were invited to submit plans for the new cathedral. The members of the panel of judges included Sir Edwin Lutyens and Father Luke, the driving force behind the construction of this beautiful cathedral. Rev Dr. E. Vanni, Archbishop of Agra in 1929, laid the foundation stone of the cathedral and the construction began in 1930.
