Hotel near airport and train station

by Bohemedream

I will be in Dehli for one night at the end of October and am looking for a clean, safe, attractive hotel with easy access to the main train station. I am hoping to find something under $100 per night for three of us for that first night. I am looking for something with friendly service and possibly airport pickup. Thank you !!!

The Hotel Gold Regency is a five-minute walk from the main train station. Its rooms are spartan, but clean, the staff is friendly enough, and the breakfast is OK.

The hotel also provides an airport pick-up -- and return -- service. (On my first visit to Delhi I got into the wrong van at the airport. Forty-five minutes later, when I got back to the airport -- the Gold Regency people were still waiting for me.)

You can make room and pick-up reservations at:

Hi..........I can recommend a wonderful guest house called Lutyens Guest house in Delhi. (See hotel tip in my New Delhi Page) I am not sure of exact proximity to the train station, but I think not too far. The service & ambiance are fantastic, and it is in a quiet area near the Lodhi gardens & Monuments.

Travel Tips for New Delhi

Pack ‘em up!

by intencity

soft waterproof luggage recod. summer: cotton dress, cap, shades, sandals. Winter: heavy woolens, ear muffler a must, hand gloves, in rains: umbrella, rain coat. waterproof shoes. mosturiser, antiseptic cream, band aid. Is there insurance for camera equipment?? Though there is no fear of theft, but its necessary for high valued professional cameras, if there is insurance that is! No beach in this part of the country! Camping in the nearby high mountains is another story! Do not forget to pack, mosquito repellant either a cream or any other option ( though most places in New Delhi is void of mosquitoes.)

Delhi Station - Pahar Ganj (Main Bazar)

(last date took the mini-van - Jan. 23, 2004)

Delhi Station - Pahar Ganj (Main Bazar)

Mini-van fare - Rs 150

The driver pretended that he doesn't know the hotel we are looking for and we noticed that he was hanging around. He even asked for an extra-fare of Rs 50 but of course we refused!!!

Secretariat Buildings

by MM212

Home to the Indian Government's most important ministries, the Secretariat Buildings are two identical, mirror images of each other. Known as North and South Block, they are located on Raisina Hill, on opposite sides of the ceremonial boulevard Rajpath which leads to President's House (Rashtrapati Bhavan). The impressive design was the work of the British architect, Herbert Baker, who successfully blended Mogul and European styles. The buildings were completed around 1930, along with the rest of the purposefully planned capital of the British Raj.

Isa Khan's Tomb Chamber

by ukirsari

Inside the octagonal building, can be seen five tombstones without names on it. Be cafeful with bats that flying sometimes. So peaceful here, I like to see the light comes in through the Jaalis [fine stone trellis] and how symmetric the windows in the chamber >> this symmetrical things became feature in Mughal architecture.
