Quirky but Good
by NedHopkins about Chor Bizarre
Antiques of various kinds are spotted around this restaurant, whose name is a play on 'chor bazaar,' meaning 'thieves' market.' One of the 'bizarre' things is a 1920s or '30s Fiat roadster modified to hold the buffet.
Located in the basement of the Broadway hotel, Chor Bazaar is as much an experience for the eyes as for the palate.
There's a full bar attached to the restaurant and another upstairs -- "Thugs" -- that features pictures of movie and real-life American gangsters.
The hotel itself does not seem very appealing; but the restaurant was packed. Tandoori chicken -- 240 rupees (about US$5.60 -- nicely marinated and roasted.
QUTAB MINAR- THE TALLEST BRICK TOWER IN THE WORLD
by kmohandas
The foundation of this world famous minar (tower) was laid by Qutbuddin Aibak of the Mamulk (Slave) dynasty towards the end of twelfth centuary. The construction was interrupted at the first storey after his death. The remaining 3 storeys were completed by Iltutmish, his successor with matching material in 1230 AD. Later, Firuz Shah Thugluk (1351-88) renovated the top storey which was damaged by lightning. He also added an additional storey and faced last two storeys with marble. King Sikandar Lodi repaired the damages, which was agin caused by a lightining in 1503 AD.
The tower has a diameter of 14.32 mirs. at base and 2.75 mtrs. at top. With a height of 72.5 mtrs., it is the tallest brick tower in the world. The protruding balconies with Stalactite pendentive brackets and ornate bands of inscriptions on it's facade heightens it's decorative effect.
