Currency

by joejanbenalex

Will be traveling to Bangalore soon. What is the best rate method to exchange currency? Should I purchase rupees here in the US, or should I wait until I get to India, and go to a bank or currency exchange? How about selling back rupees? Thanks!

Re: Currency

i will wait till i arrive at the airport to change money. ATM gives you the best exchange rates. I would not change into rupees in the USA. Rupee is one of the few currencies that have not gone up against the dollar. in the big cities there are multiple money changers and the rates are good.

You cannot buy Rupees outside of India. When you arrive and just before you leave the secure area there is a Thomas Cook currency exchange. Buy some Rupees before you leave the airport.

Use the ATM's for the best rates.
Carry USD $'s for when you cannot find an ATM easily.
Try and carry only mint crisp notes with no tears or writing on the notes.

Hi,

Convert only whatever is essential (for Cabs etc)at the Airport as at the Airport ,one tends to get lower rates, most Hotels exchage dollars and the rates are dispalyed at the reception

You will also find money exchages at various places and depending on the rates displayed can buy Indian RS.

Crafts Museum

by josephescu

Just opposite the Purana Quila (the Old Fort), there is a crafts museum, containing a collection of traditional stalls displaying various crafts such as textiles, woodwork, ceramics, statues of animals, puppets, masks, paintings, tribal objects, terracotta figures, raj-time vehicles, etc from various cultures and tribes. The open air traditional houses from all around the subcontinent make it an impressive village life exhibition, together with the craft demonstrations and artisans who sell directly to the buyer.

There was non entrance fee, and we were allowed to make pictures in the courtyards.

Presidential residence

by uglyscot

This presidential palace was designed by Lutyen. He copied the idea of symmetry from the old Moghul architects, so that from a distance the palace seems to be flanked by two large buildings, though in reality they are some distance away.
Entrance to the palace is not allowed, but the 340 room palace can be observed from the ornate gates. In front of it stands the column with the Star of India on top.
