I've just arrived in Delhi after a pretty full on (in the best possible sense) trip round Asia. Now I'm looking for a nice, funky little place to spend a couple of days before my flight out.
Preferably somewhere with a good bookshelf, interesting people to chat to, that kind of thing.

You can find some nice place to stay in Pahar Gang area is real test of local people in delhi.

you can stay at karolgarh area, it is a shoping mall, near connaught place and located in central Delhi. You say at Hotel Pablas International, Hotel Surya Shelter etc...love an dmsile..vivek

Will stay in Delhi for 1 day .
Any hotel advice with bathroom but not expensive .
And how much would I EXPECT TO PAY FOR A TAXI FROM THE AIRPORT TO HOTEL ??
Try the YWCA. The price is right and the location is excellent. I can't recall the taxi from airport to there though.
I agree, it's a safe option and good value. You can get a pre-pay taxi at the airport to take you there.

YOu can hve nice and cheaper hotel at Karolbargh area like hotel Suriya Shelter (2*), HOtel Regent Continental (2*), HOtel Pablas International (2*), they will be from 1,200 to 1,800/- per Dbl room with breakfast. taxi will take round of Rs. 400/500 from Hotel to Karolbarg area...hope it will help you..love and smile..vivek
