The World's Favourite Indian Restaurant
by SabrinaSummerville about Bukhara
The restaurant is large, busy, and bustling - full of smiling, happy people. Having eaten there it's easy to see why.
The efficient waiter knew it was our first time there and waved the menu aside. Plates of delicious typically Indian food appeared from everywhere - melt-in-the-mouth pieces of lamb, delectable Tandoori chicken portions, lentils, creamy yoghurt, plates of vegetables - delightful battered cauliflower, potatoes, crunchy red onion; then delightful poppas and delicious naan bread.
We ate with our fingers and washed the food down with drinks from brass cups.
It is said that this is former President Clinton's favourite Indian restaurant, and I can see why.
The down side of the place is that you are waiting forever to be seated - it is one of the worst places I have ever been in this regard.
Also, the dress code is quite casual - given that it was billed as Clinton's favourite restaurant I expected something more snazzy. casual is great by me, I just wish I hadn't dressed like a princess, lol:-) Forget the menu and let the waiters treat you to their suggestion - it worked for us.
Palriament Building
by apuleuis
This was a photo stop only, not a place I actually went into. It is the president's house and the parliament building. It is also right next to the India gate. It also seems to be one of the only patches of green in the city, and the park can get quite full in the evenings.
RASHTRAPATHI BHAVAN- THE PRESIDENTIAL ESTATE
by kmohandas
Rashtrapati Bhawan (Presidential Estate) is the official residence of the President of The Union Of India. This huge palatial building was the Viceroy’s residence during British rule. This building has Mughal, Indian and British influences. This building is the finest example of the amalgamation of Indian and western architecture.
The building is ‘H” shaped. The building is not open to public. But the outside view. is worth seeing. Between 26th – 30h January each year, the entire building is lit up in celebration of India’s Republic Day, which falls on 26 January. A view of Rajpath (King’s Way) from here in the evenings during these days is absolutely delighting. During February every year, the beautiful Mughal Gardens, which if famous for a variety of roses, are opened to the public in the mornings by the President. The Mughal gardens, with beautifully laid out parks and flower beds, water bodies and fountains provide a beautiful sight. Photography of the garden and interior of the buildings are strictly prohibited.
Lodi Gardens - Tomb of Sikandar Lodi
by MM212
Located within its own walled enclosure in Lodi Gardens is the mausoleum for Sultan Sikandar Lodi, who died in 1517. He was the second Sultan from the Afghan Lodi dynasty, which ruled from 1451 to 1526. His octagonal mausoleum follows the design of earlier Sayyid-dynasty mausoleums and looks nearly identical to that of Muhammad Shah, also in Lodi Gardens. It makes use of beautiful glazed Persian tiles in its interior and exterior.
