by npg about maurya sheraton new delhi
well i had the fortune to briefly work/live at the sheraton in new delhi. some rooms are much nicer than others, if you are staying in the main "wing" which is right above the main entrance. the higher you go (floors) the better the decor and room conditions. if you are staying in the wing that is directly off to your left as you walk in the main entrance then the rooms are much nicer and i imagine more expensive. ROOM SERVICE. always seemed prompt. the staff cleaning the rooms were always fast and helpful in anyway. there was never any problem with laundry.
RATING. now i was lucky to be a guest for 6 weeks so i was not out of pocket paying for accomodation, BUT, if i was paying to stay in the main wing i would expect better decor. it really did seem old and tired and in need of refurbashing.
CONS. the main wing houses a lot of air crews. these guys and girls can get a little rowdy at times. especially air canada ;-)
thanks for the good times guys! :-)
CONS,2. the food in the 24 cafe was always nice, but the service is arthritic. i have been told that slow service is unique to india, and after talking to other guests, found that it was quite quick compared to other places around india! to be honest with you, management are great with lip service, but lack in hands on and knowledge. in fact (without joke) a 17yo duty manager from the golden arches could run the cafe far better! if you can, try to ask for an end room (end of corridore) these rooms tended to be one and a half to twice the size as the rooms along the corridore. (i like my space). rooms over looking the pool have the best view. also there are some rooms that over look a small water feature/waterfall that are quite relaxing to look out over.
the gym seemed well equipped and modern. mens and womens areas too. the pool is large and nice.
dublin bar is good for a beer or two. the bar is circular but sectioned. the bar staff are good! in trying conditions. lots of wealthy indians with the "don't you know who i am" attitude. lots of stunning indian women with an eye for "carats". but enough guests to get you through the night with a good story and a laugh. the dublin bar is suppose to be the most exclusive bar in india. they do get the bollywood types and if they are in town, the aussie crickets don't mind a pint there!
Advance reservation is a must!
by Restless-in-kl about Bukhara
Bukhara serves the best tandoori in New Delhi and it is located in the Sheraton Delhi Hotel. It's cuisine for the mughals who were nomads with big appetites for meat. So good that dignataries from all over the world come here to dine including former president Bill Clinton.
The ambience is cosy and cave-like with warm lightings. Can get a little noisy when restaurant is full which happens everyday. We sat around low tables, surrounded by copper cooking utensils and pillars.
There is an open kitchen that you can watch your food being prepared.
Eating by hand is encouraged, so do as the locals do and it seems to taste better. We also had to wear a bib around our necks in case things get a little messy but all these add to the fun and character of this restaurant.
Advance reservation is essential!
After your meal, adjourn to the lobby lounge of the hotel and have a drink whilst enjoying the modern mural on the ceiling. All the different breads and dips/curries, some bread is as big as the table and everyone just take off bits and chunks from wherever they can reach!
The tandoori is to die for especially the mutton that seems to melt in your mouth.

Hello I was wondering if anyone can help?
I am travelling to New Delhi in 2 weeks (April) and have heard rave reviews about Bukhara Restaurant in New Delhi, at the Sheraton Hotel. It will be my partners birthday when travelling so I would love to take him here for a lovely meal. I have searched the internet for hours and cannot find any way to book/reserve this restaurant. I live in England so would therefore struggle to ring, but if I could email that would be great! Please, please, please could anyone advise me whether this is possible or whether I will have to just cross my fingers and hope we can go without a reservation.
Thank you.

A couple of years ago my son and I walked in for lunch without reservations. We were promptly seated. That might not be possible for dinner, or always for lunch. All else failing it would be worth a try: the food is indeed outstanding.
Alternatively, you might try calling or faxing the Maurya Sheraton and asking for the restaurant -- or that a fax be delivered to it:
Tel: (91)(11)26112233
Fax: (91)(11)42662112
Bukhara is open 1230-1345 for lunch, 1900-2345 for dinner.

I agree with fellow VTer that food is really great at Bukhara Restaurant and you certainly need a reservation. They are always busy.
