How long does it to take to travel from Jaipur to Hoshiapur and from Jaipur to delhi? Is it better if I take a train from Jaipur to Delhi then to Hoshiapur? Thanks again...

Travel Tips for New Delhi

Traditional Gifts and Souvenirs

by DaDrifter about The Delhi Haat

A Haat is a shanty market where craftsmen and traders come to display and sell their products. The Delhi Haat is a permanent bazaar for display and sale of arts, crafts and foods from all over India.

The Delhi Haat is located opposite the INA market, near the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. This is a great place to buy traditional Indian gifts and souvenirs and also to try some authentic food from the different states of India.

There is always something new happening at the Delhi Haat - the stalls, the crafts and the displays are changed every few weeks and the haat bears a completely new look each time you visit.

The items available on sale are of excellent quality and are reasonably priced. Just about everything ethnic - clothes, pottery, gems, jewellery, leather goods, brassware, paintings, decoratives etc. Good quality and reasonable prices

An Institution with a well-earned reputation

by jrober37 about Karim's

Delhi is changing rapidly and many of the old wonderful restaurants are disappearing so I was delighted to find Karim's still thriving in old Delhi. It is 'home-cooking' - the tandoori quite different from anything you've ever had unless you've been a house-guest in the Pujab. Combine this experience with your visit to Jami Masjid. All of the Mughal dishes are superb. Many visit for the 'burra kebab'. I thought the tandoori chicken and the buttered nan quite the best I've ever had.

Purana Quila

by johnbradshawlayfield

Old Fort or Purana Quila -- The fort is said to be constructed on the historic site of Indraprastha (900BC) by Humayun and Sher Shah. Covering a circuit of about a mile, the walls of the fort have three gates and are surrounded by a moat fed by the river Yamuna. The wall was built by Humayun while the buildings in the fort are attributed to Sher Shar. The notable buildings that have survived in the fort are the Sher Mandal and the Quila-I-kholina Mosque.

Cathedral Church of the Redemption

by ukirsari

The architect of this beautiful church is Henry Alexander Medd [1892 - 1977]. Inspired by Palladio Chuch of Il Redentore in Venice! No wonder, the name Cathedral Church of the Redemption is derived from this church; Redentore >> Redemption.
It was used as the main Anglican church for senior British Officials in New Delhi [1931] and now is the diocese of the Bishop of the Church of Northern India.

Birla Mandir

by DaDrifter

The Lakshmi Narayan Mandir, popularly known as the Birla Mandir, is one of Delhi's major tourist attractions. It receives a large number of visitors and devotees alike, almost every day.

This Hindu temple was built by the Birla family, a wealthy industrialist family from India, during the period 1933-1938. The temple was innaugrated by Mahatma Gandhi in 1938, with a condition that people from all strata of society be freely allowed to offer prayers at the temple, irrespective of their caste. A rigid caste system prevalent in those days prevented people from lower castes from entering places of worship.

The Geeta Bhawan, a hall inside the temple complex, is richly decorated with paintings depicting scenes from Hindu mythology. There is also a small temple dedicated to Buddha within the complex.
