More about Yatri House
Yatri House an excellent affordable choice
We stayed at Yatri House for a total of 5 nights on three separate occasions during our month long India trip. It had been recommended by friends. Our first arrival in Delhi was late in the evening and we were pleasantly surprised by Yatri House’s quiet, safe setting in a small gated lane off the busy street of Punchkuin Marg. Surrounding the property are large mature trees which were full of birdsong particularly in the mornings. The owner, Mr. Sanjay Puri, and his staff were extremely helpful and attentive to our every need. It was an oasis of calm amidst the chaotic traffic and noise of Delhi, and much appreciated after the stress of a long road trip through Rajasthan. The rooms are spacious, simply decorated, and clean with everything a traveler would expect. The food we were served was excellent with undeniably the best scrambled eggs and grilled cheese sandwiches we had in India! There is also a separate lounge/library/computer room available with free internet service. We had also prearranged our 3 week car rental through Sanjay, at a very reasonable cost. In conclusion, we found Yatri House to be an excellent, affordable choice for our stays in Delhi, with its main advantages being its convenient central location, quiet urban setting, comfortable rooms, and the staff’s excellent service and advice. We hope to return again.”

Excellent, clean, affordable.....
My wife and I just returned from travelling in India. We stayed for several days in New Delhi and wanted to recommend the Yatri House to any fellow travellers out there. The Yatri House on Panchkuian Road is ideally located near the metro and close to the center of things. The accommodations are clean and offer a lot of privacy. A peaceful, quiet garden is available to sit in to relax after a busy day touring the Delhi streets. Sanjay, the owner/proprietor, is a wealth of information and was very helpful in giving advice for local sights and foods. A nice breakfast is offered in the morning. The staff is courteous and professional. If you need a car, Sanjay can book you one with an English speaking driver who knows his way around the city. This is particularly helpful as we had friends with drivers that did not speak English and were not as familiar with the area.
In all, if you want to spend huge bucks, the Imperial might be for you. But, if you want a clean, comfortable, convenient, friendly place to stay while in New Delhi, the Yatri House is a good place.
Also, WiFi and local calls are free.
Fabulous guesthouse, fabulous location!
We have just returned from India and spent 3 nights at this wonderful guest house in Delhi. A great location - very central to everything and walking distance from the new metro line - located in a quiet and secure lane with garden settings and courtyards. Rooms and bathrooms are spacious and well appointed. Yummy breakfasts are served in the courtyard and meals are available. Sanjay is a very wecoming host, very organised and well informed, willing to assist with any request and a ready source of local knowledge. Likewise the staff are very friendly and helpful. An added bonus is the great book collection. We would recommend this delightful guesthouse without hesitation to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in Delhi.
peace and quiet
This charming, small and friendly guesthouse was a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of Delhi.
Rooms were large, very neat and clean, well appointed with comfortable beds.
The staff were very friendly and nothing was a problem.
Breakfast was included and was perfectly adequate - served in the courtyard or on the front verandah.
There was plenty .of outside space where you could sit and relax, read, or chat to the host, Sanjay who was extremely helpful with recommendations of eating places, organising trips, etc.
Restaurants were a short walk away - plenty of variety, as well as an array of night spots.
I would recommend Yatri if you wanted a look at the quiter side of Delhi life.
An Oasis of Peace
Delhi is a fabulous, beguiling city - but like any capital it can be exhaustibng. The Yatri is a peaceful, green oasis which revives you - and sends you out again; refreshed, enthused and ready for more adventures.
It is on a private street off Punchkuin Road (the name means five wells) a three minute stroll from the Hare Krishna ashram Metro Station, just one stop from the central hub CP - Connaught Place.
The constant rush of Delhi's traffic and the fury of horns is just a faint whisper in the distance and you wake in the morning to the hubub of birdsong, the squabbles of parrots and and the raucous rowing of crows in the surrounding trees
We were there in winter, when Delhi's days are warm but the mornings are cool and misty. The veranda beside the lush garden is a trap for the early sun, which warms the bones while you enjoy a tasty breakfast.
But Delhi is a hot spot in Sumer - and when the sun is at its least fogiving, the shaded inner courtyard offers a great escape in the open air - although the rooms are all airconditioned.
And talking of hot spots - the Yatri has free internet access on the computer in the lounge and fee Wi-Fi in all the rooms and public spaces. So you can keep in touch with the world without spending a fortune on your mobile.
The rooms are big, comfy, clean. Each has a safe to keep your valuables secure. the bathrooms are modern, sparklingly clean and with lashings of hot water when you need it.
The proprietor, Sanjay, is around regularly and always helpful with tips and advice on getting around, things to see, places to go, places to eat, places to shop, trips to make ... and more.
We will definitely be returning.
Couple of tips - arrange with Sanjay http://www.yatrihouse.com/index.htm
for a driver to pick you up at the airport or train station when you arrive - it saves lots of hassle and avoids the risk of a taxi driver promising to take you there, then taking you to another hotel which will givehim a commission for the trade. That's happened to us before!
And pick up a credit-card sized Metro card for a 50Rs (about 60p sterling or a little under $1US deposit), at a Metro station, put 50Rs on it and will give you a day of travel all over this modern transport system reaching most of the key places a tourist would want to see in the city. Top up the card when you need to at any Metro station - or hand it back in to get yur 50Rs back.
Peaceful & secure
We stayed at Yatri House at the end of our trip to India but Sanjay, the owner, helped us with train tickets and in finding a car with a fantastic driver long before our arrival. We would never have secured our first class tickets without his help. In short he made our trip the sucess it was. Yatri was also a great base in Delhi.
Clean, Cheap, Centrally-located, with a very helpful owner/operator
I stayed at Yatri Guest House for three nights in January 2008. At about $60/night, it was great. Very clean, quiet (a real treat in Delhi), and conveniently located. Since it was January, it was a bit chilly, and there is only enough hot water in the tanks for a couple of quick showers, but owner/operator Sanjay's helpfulness made up for that. He helped my group of four twenty-somethings hire cars, gave us excellent restaurant recommendations, and even helped us deal with a friend who was stranded at the airport. Breakfasts are basic, but soothingly Western - eggs any way you want, toast, fruit, coffee, tea, yogurt.
Sanjay also runs a couple of other guest houses around town, which I'd imagine are equally nice. In fact, his wife has one in South Delhi which looks a lot spiffier - if you don't care about location, and prefer trendy-looking sheets, try her place.
Canadians loved the Yatri
Just left the Yatri House for a 21 day tour of Rajasthan. Having spent 2 nights in Delhi at the quiet oasis of Yatri where a driver picked us up at the airport all arranged by Sanjay was a welcome relief. The Yatri House is superbly managed with very clean rooms and hot water. The breakfasts, especially the Muselli w/ yougurt, fresh fruit, toast & tea is a wonderful way to start the day off. Sitting in the court garden or front garden sipping tea anytime of the day served by the endearing Pansingh one could not ask for anything more. We highly recommend this place & plan on returning after our tour. I write this review from Jaipur which once again Sanjay helped us with hotel advice. If you are looking for a mid-range, well managed, clean & quiet place just e-mail Yatri House & you are on your way to a great experience. This review is from two Canadians having a spectacular time in Northern India. P.S. You can also arrange reasonably priced driver and car to Rajasthan as oppose to dealing with one of the travel agents in Connaught Place.
A great place to start in India
We stayed at Yatri House for the first two nights of a 16 day holiday in India. We chose the hotel because of its great location in central Delhi, its reasonable price and because we had heard that the owner Sanjay would be able to organise onward travel. The hotel was tucked away on a quiet gated lane off a main road, so it was quiet at night yet only a 3 minute tuk tuk ride from Connaught Place. The place was meticulously clean and the staff very attentive - the breakfast was especially nice. True to his reputation, Sanjay arranged for an excellent driver (Ashu) to drive us to Agra and around Rajasthan for 2 weeks. We are sure that we wouldn't have seen as much of India without Ashu, who navigated the crazy Indian roads calmly and made sure we were safe whereever we went. He also explained many Indian customs about which we would otherwise never have known. We are really glad we stayed at Yatri House and would recommend it to anyone using Delhi as a starting point for a trip around Rajasthan.
Nice hotel, well located between Old and New Delhi
Yatri House Hotel Delhi - 6 Février 2008
We have been very welcomed by Mr. Sanjay at the Yatri House. He has been very helpful in organizing our trip across Radjasthan. Indeed, he helped us with our hotel rooms reservations and finding a good driver for our trip.We would also like to recognize Delbag Singh Lakrer who tried to accomodate our requests during the trip.He has facilitated our desire to see many birds and animals as possible as well as many aspects of the Indian lifestyle.
We are likely to recommend the Yatri House to our friends in the future.
