International Guest House: clean cheap and central

I stayed at the International Guest House, part of the Aurobindi Ashram accommodation lot, actually I've stayed there twice. It's very central, amazingly cheap ( rs 400 a night) and clean. The cleaners ion each floor are charming which off-sets the surliness of reception nicely. I will visit again.

Unique Quality: White, clean, simple rooms with attached bathroom. Five stories around a central courtyard with a hugely tall palm tree growing through it.

Excellent and Elegant Accommodation: Hotel Mango Hill

Hi, Hotel Mango Hill, 3 star luxury countryside Indian hotel with unmistakable French touch. Hotel featuring, spacious and large restaurant of French, Chinese and Indian cuisine, were you can get the real taste.

Excellent and elegant 24 rooms "Thai cottages and luxury suites" with private terraces overlooking the pool and Bay of Bengal or country side of Pondicherry.

Lotus Bay View: There are better choices...

There were a couple positives to this place and I tried really hard to like it, but given that there are so many other choices of accommodations in Pondicherry, it just fell short. "Bay view" is a little misleading. It is actually just off Beach Road and there are no bay view rooms.

The hotel and room were extremely clean. The room itself was a little small and the only window was a very small side window overlooking some pipes. There was no fan but there is an AC.

The hotel advertised internet (an important criteria for us for work) but there was actually only a connection in the lobby. There was no restaurant on the premises, although there were several within walking distance. They did provide a South Indian breakfast (photo #2) that was passable.

The bed was extremely hard and uncomfortable. The front desk provided incorrect travel/Pondicherry information - they didn't seem to know very much. The hotel was also very noisy - whether it was from people talking via internet in the lobby (loudly!) to people in the hallways and other rooms.

My test is always - would I stay there again? I would not nor would I recommend it to anyone else.

Park Guest House: Ashram on the beach

This is actually an ashram that's very well located right on the beach front at the southern end of the city centre. All of the rooms face a large open grass area which is where you do your yoga lessons and it was the quietest place I stayed in throughout my 4 months in India! My room, for Rs600, was large with 2 single beds, a very large sofa, a large coffee table, ceiling fan, a/c, large mirror, deck chair, chair, 2 plastic armchairs, desk, wardrobe, hot water electric power shower where everything was clean and tidy. You can hire bicycles for Rs30/day. Good place that's well located with friendly staff.

Atithi: New Hotel at Pondicherry (open 2008)

Unique Quality: Its one of the newest addition to the Pondy's hotel pool. Loacted very near to the beach...may be 15 minutes walk to the beach. 24 hrs checkin - check out. Complimentary Breakfast. I didnt check thier rooms, must be good, since they are geting into the competetive hotel industry.

World Guest House, Pondicherry: Cheap Guest House at Pondicherry

Never Stayed!

Unique Quality: cheap accomodation. House converted into a guest house. The rooms are neat and clean. Located in a good neighbour hood. Very close (1 km) to old town and beach. Full furnished flat accomodation is also available. Tariff (July 08) - double non A/c - Rs.550, A/c Rs.1200, furnished appartment (2 bed rooms with A/c, kitchen & hall cum dining) - Rs.2950.
