Our tour operator had booked the hotel for our stay for 1 night in this hotel. On reaching; the outer look suggested it will be good stay. But before check-in we thought of look for the cleanliness. To our utter shock it was unhygienic to say the least; torn beddings, dirty rooms, Pan spitted all over, alcoholic smell. We told that we won’t check-in in the hotel as we had asked for a good & clean room. Travel agent (Just Travel, Syed) told us that room will cost 1800/- while the voucher mentioned it to be 1250/-. Told the manager there that we can’t check-in. He even showed his best room- which was no different.
We went out for searching a new hotel. In the evening I got a call from the tour operator that I need to pay 1000/- to the Driver as cancellation charges. We went to hotel to check the correctness.. though we knew he must have told the manager to say a similar story. I went and told the other manager and he told its fine.. no charges for cancellation and called up the operator. Tour Operator used local language and told the manager that he should say 1000/- as cancellation charges which the other manager knew of. I talked to the other manager (Mr. Anand) (which according to the staff present was the owner); he told his shift starts at 11.00 pm. He told hotel was already paid full amount as booking amount by the tour operator and they have levied cancellation charges of 1000/-. I told ok fine. In a couple of minutes “owner/manager” called me again and told me to pay 1000/- cash as cancellation charges. I told him how can you ask me to pay? Tour operator has paid you full amount; you need to refund 250/- back to operator. This clearly shows how the manager/owner had nexus with the tour operator. Manager (Anand) persistently asked that I need to pay; I asked how could have he located me had I not come to the hotel for clarification. This is the level of service. When I was standing there in the reception area; another family was coming out of the restaurant and complained about the food and poor service of the staff. Thankfully I didn’t stayed at the Hotel Anandham Residency.
Torn beddings, dirty rooms, Nexus with Tour operators
I stayed at the International Guest House, part of the Aurobindi Ashram accommodation lot, actually I've stayed there twice. It's very central, amazingly cheap ( rs 400 a night) and clean. The cleaners ion each floor are charming which off-sets the surliness of reception nicely. I will visit again.
White, clean, simple rooms with attached bathroom. Five stories around a central courtyard with a hugely tall palm tree growing through it.
I stayed for 2 night (week end) in this small place (3 rooms). Place is clean and quiet, service is attentive, rooms have AC, free internet acces, and usual facilities. Location is fine: close to the sea, and 250 m from Sri Aurobindo Ashram. Terraces are at the third floor, without lift which is high, but sightseen is very nice. A good place to stay for week end or more. I will go back.
Seaview. Quiet place.
If you are on long stay and need a comfortable place, this is the place to look for in Pondicherry. Such a comfort and so lovely warm staffs. They are not greedy for the money so the room price is really low in contrast to the great location. The toilet is clean! which is something rare in india hotels. The corridor is close to the room and can be alittle noisy. Lovely location tho.
location, friendliness, value for money and cleanliness
Hi, Hotel Mango Hill, 3 star luxury countryside Indian hotel with unmistakable French touch. Hotel featuring, spacious and large restaurant of French, Chinese and Indian cuisine, were you can get the real taste.
Excellent and elegant 24 rooms "Thai cottages and luxury suites" with private terraces overlooking the pool and Bay of Bengal or country side of Pondicherry.
* Excellent service
* Spacious and clean rooms
* spa and Massage
* Budget with Bed and breakfast
* Stylish, perfect mood decoration
** Rated with 3 star
There were a couple positives to this place and I tried really hard to like it, but given that there are so many other choices of accommodations in Pondicherry, it just fell short. "Bay view" is a little misleading. It is actually just off Beach Road and there are no bay view rooms.
The hotel and room were extremely clean. The room itself was a little small and the only window was a very small side window overlooking some pipes. There was no fan but there is an AC.
The hotel advertised internet (an important criteria for us for work) but there was actually only a connection in the lobby. There was no restaurant on the premises, although there were several within walking distance. They did provide a South Indian breakfast (photo #2) that was passable.
The bed was extremely hard and uncomfortable. The front desk provided incorrect travel/Pondicherry information - they didn't seem to know very much. The hotel was also very noisy - whether it was from people talking via internet in the lobby (loudly!) to people in the hallways and other rooms.
My test is always - would I stay there again? I would not nor would I recommend it to anyone else.
This is actually an ashram that's very well located right on the beach front at the southern end of the city centre. All of the rooms face a large open grass area which is where you do your yoga lessons and it was the quietest place I stayed in throughout my 4 months in India! My room, for Rs600, was large with 2 single beds, a very large sofa, a large coffee table, ceiling fan, a/c, large mirror, deck chair, chair, 2 plastic armchairs, desk, wardrobe, hot water electric power shower where everything was clean and tidy. You can hire bicycles for Rs30/day. Good place that's well located with friendly staff.
Its one of the newest addition to the Pondy's hotel pool. Loacted very near to the beach...may be 15 minutes walk to the beach. 24 hrs checkin - check out. Complimentary Breakfast. I didnt check thier rooms, must be good, since they are geting into the competetive hotel industry.

La Maison Blanche is a beautiful guesthouse in Pondicherry. The gueshouse is painted in white, providing a visually soothing and a clean atmosphere to the guests. Walking around the guesthouse and glazing at the walls, you can observe pictures & paintings that reflect Indian culture.
I would definitely recommend this guesthouse to anyone visiting Pondicherry.
The villa has 6 beautifully decorated rooms with attached bathrooms and with the option of an air conditioner. The villa has a in-house cook, to cater home made food on demand.
This is a place to treat yourself to. We were welcomed by the owner as we arrived. The room that we had was amazing. It was spacious, as you walk in there is a room with twin beds should you have children. Next is a seating area complete with sofa, lamps and writing desk and colourful mats on the floors. Then you have the bedroom area with a mosquito net that actually fits the bed. The bathroom was bright and clean with mosaic tiling. Every morning you are served fresh bread, croissants and coffee, which is eaten around a shared table with the other people that are staying there. The nice touch for me was that the staff took the clothes that I had washed and returned them dry later that day without me asking. Really thoughtful.
As well as the room that you have, you have use of the light courtyard where you can sit and read at your leisure. All rooms have traditional furniture. There are several properties that they own which vary in price.
If you are not particular about staying near the beach or not averse to stay near the hustle and bustle of the main bus stand of city, then you can opt for Aditya Inn. It good value for money with clean rooms, hot water during mornings and friendly staff.
They have 2 types of accomodation with small little cottages shaped liek huts close to the beach as well as single rooms close to the beach. Though the cottages would seem like a natural choice due to its proximity to the beach and also because of the uniqueness it offers.
The resort also offers swimming pool and jaccuzi facilites in the resort premises
