Pondok Wisata Umbul Sidomukti: New Ungaran mountain resort
A new development on the southern slope of Ungaran mountain. Since pre-war times Bandungan at 900 masl was the place for inhabitants of Semarang and Salatiga to breathe some mountain air. Now Umbul Sidomukti recreation area is an attractive alternative. No crowded market here, the views of the mountain and deep valleys are superb.
There is only one place to stay, the Pondok Wisata at 1100 masl. Adjacent to this resort there are a swimming pool, a camp ground and recreational activities for the youth, like flying fox, all terrain vehicles and marine bridge. Some budget 'villa's' higher up the mountain are under construction.
Address: Sidomukti village, Bandungan district, Semarang regency,
Directions: From Semarang take the main road south. About 5 km past Ungaran town, at the Lemah Abang petrol station, turn into the Bandungan road indicated by a Gedong Songo billboard. At 6 km along this road you reach Jimbaran village. Just past Jimbaran market take the narrow road north through a porch 'Umbul Sidomukti'. Follow the signs for another 4 km.
From Salatiga drive north and turn left at 5 km past Bawen. This road takes you through Samban, Poncoruso and Blater to Jimbaran village. There turn left and after 100 m right again under the 'Umbul Sidomukti' porch.
Unique Quality: For us the main attraction of the resort is as a base for hiking trips on the mountain. To Sikendil Plantation (1500 masl) is one hour one way, to Candipengilon hamlet with the 'Japanese cave' (1400 masl) or to Gebugan nature reserve (1500 masl) is two hours one way. A hike to Ungaren summit (2050 masl) we still have to attempt and should take about 4 hours one way.
The Pondok Wisata rooms can accommodate four, with one double bed in the main room and another double bed at the mezzanine. In the open air bathroom hot water is provided. Breakfast and taxes are included for Rp 350,000 on weekdays and Rp 400,000 on holidays.
The pondok only provides simple fare like nasi goreng and bakmi goreng. For something more substantial there is a lesehen restaurant on walking distance (uphill). The restaurant closes at 5 pm: order your dinner timely and it will be served at the pondok.

hotel batik jogjakarta: stay in jogja is better
ambarawa is not so far away from jogjakarta, so i decided to make ambarawa as a daytrip and stay in jogjakarta. another decision was made since i have so many friends to be visited here plus, stay in this city always nice. delicious food and friendly people [even not at all, my recent experience with several local in sosrowijayan area wasn't nice. i am indonesian like them but looking at me with a backpack, they think "cheap and dirty places she can be, as long as she can have shower" and i reply "totally wrong, my style can be like this, but i am also a human, i need secure feeling, clean bedsheet and i don't want to accept your unpolite welcome-assistance-guidance."].
after wandering around with several of my good friends, i fall in love with this place. nice place to stay, my room just next to the swimming pool.
Unique Quality: truely jogjakartan with joglo style of architecture. it's a bungalow with occupancy maximum 4 person. included western toilet and bathtub, cable tv and fridge plus aircon. hmmm, luxurious for us; me, sinta, intan and mbot :)
