Faded Glory

We stayed in Bali in November of 2002. We stayed six nights at the Bali Hilton and two nights at the Bali Cliff hotel.

Since we were in Bali shortly after the terrorist bombing in Kuta, there weren't a lot of people at the hotel, but all the tourist we saw were Japanese.

The Bali Cliff shows signs of age. There were repairs that just hadn't been made. We found loose stones around it's magnificent reflection pool. The rooms were standard in size, and ours had cigarette burn in the couch in the room and on the carpet. As you came into the room to the right was a small bathroom. The bathroom was about 8 feet by 8 feet in size. It had a bathtub with a built in shower, a single sink with perhaps 10 inches of counter on each side.

The bedroom had a king size bed and a couch and chair by the patio door. There wasn't a lot of extra room but it was clean.

The good. The location of the Bali Cliff is somewhat isolated, but it is on the cliffs south of Nusa Dua and has a wonderful breeze blowing much of the time. The grounds are gorgeous and the views terrific. You also get a wonderful sound of the ocean as you sit by the pool.

The bad. The gardens seem to attract insects (mainly mosquitoes) and there were a constant problem.

The Ugly. There are wild monkeys that come around each day to eat the offerings the Balinese leave at their shrines at the hotel.

The Bali Cliff is a mixed bag. It's relatively reasonable in cost (we paid $92 per night including 21% tax and service and breakfast for two), has beautiful grounds, and is relaxing. However, it is showing its age, has a lot of insects, and is relatively remote.

Unique Quality: When you first drive up to the Bali Cliff you are met with two enormous stone structures that bookcase the road going in. As you drive in you are treated to beautiful grounds with flowering trees and small stone statues. There is a large pond off to the right that is filled with water blossoms.

There is a small fountain area in front of the hotel.
