Hotel in Denpassar/Nusa Dua
by cl3150
I will be in Nusa Dua (Denpassar) in late February for 4-5 days, and the only information I have found about hotels has been on the Internet, from sites trying to sell rooms. I would love to get some feedback from those of you who are knowledgeable about the area. I have sort of narrowed down my search to the following hotels: Grand Hyatt Bali, Sheraton Laguna, Sheraton Nusa Dua, Nusa Dua Beach Hotel, Anantara, Conrad, The Bale, Amanusa, Westin.
I realize this is quite a long list, but any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Carl

Nusa Dua is an enclave of high-end resorts but the beach area is not that great. Both Sheratons are great and so is Westin. But if you want to splurge, try Amanusa.

Hi
Well it just goes to show what some people think different to others, I personally think the Beach in Nusa Dua area is really good, there are places where you can relax on the beach and be almost on your own, with small coves, which can make it feel really private, and no hawkers, and it is good for swimming, but not really god for surfing/snorkelling then there are the hotel private araes, which tend to be a little more crowded.
As previous poster says, Amanusa is one of the most luxurious and comes with a price tag to match, The Bale is one of the places you mentioned,it is a very good place, and can feel very private there, but it is quite away from Nusa Dua itself and not really near the beach, (from the Bale you are best going to Gerger beach if you want to relax, and gerger has good swimming, surfing and snorkelling). The Conrad is really in Tanjung Benoa, which has more restaurants/bars and other social activities than Nusa Dua itself.
In my opinion, staying at the Grand Hyatt Bali, Sheraton,Westin, is like staying in those hotels anywhere in the world, it doesn't really give you a feel of being in Bali.
Nusa Dua Beach Hotel is in my opinion the best one in Nusa Dua Area for both the value for money and for the service, it is famous for making the guests who stay there feel relaxed and that they are not just a number (unlike some of the other places in Nusa Dua).
There isn't too much to do in the resort area at night, there is the shopping centre "Collection" which has supermarket and restaurants etc, but the prices are high. You need to go outside of the resort area to find the shops/restaurants and bars etc, which are a little bit cheaper, Tanjung Benoa is definately more lively, and the taxi fare would be around 20,000 to 30,000 rupiah one way.
If you wanted to experience the very busy night life of Kuta/Legian/Seminyak, or even the shopping then the taxi would be around 50,000 one way. Don't use the hotels transport unless you have no choice, it is very expensive. Take a walk outside of the hotel and there are usually plenty of taxis around. The best ones are "Blue Bird Group" or the Gold coloured taxi's.
Have a great time in Bali wherever you stay.

Carrying on top of the Head is easier...
by myspices
Most women will carry their wares and goods on top of their heads. You will be amazed at how strong their heads and necks are as the basketful is indeed heavy and bulky. They will place a coiled-up towel or cloth on heads to support the heavy load.
