I stayed at the Puri Rai in one of their large aircon rooms. The hotel is well managed and obviously the most upmarket in the area. It has 3 lovely pools. I thought that the breakfast was dismal though.
I also had a look at their new wing which feature enclosed 2 bedroomed villas. Great value.
This is the obvious choice if you are planning to dive in Candidasa. The dive shops are all a stone's throw away from the hotel entrance.
If you are looking for a place to relax for a few days or a few weeks, love to gaze at the quiet blue sea dotted with colorful fishing boats, and enjoy beautiful sunsets, then I would certainly recommend the Blue Moon Villas.
When I daydream, I dream that I am back there sitting on a pillow around the low table in the restaurant bar, lounging in the pool staring out to sea,
or watching the beautiful sunset from my upstairs balcony.
You have your choice of several different kinds of accommodations.
There are 2 small free standing cottages with queen bed and fresh air bathrooms.
They also have the large villa that can be divided into accommodations for 3 couples
or you can rent the whole villa. We have done both and none are bad choices.
Fresh seafood, ocean view, scenic pool, snorkeling, diving, guided tours with car and driver, pool table, beautiful surroundings.
A much publicized property
within this area is the Alila Manggis.
As you enter the property,
the coconut grove along with the other lush,
does give it an attractive appeal.
As we visited the property,
we got the feeling that
the property could use a bit of maintenance.
Not that it was in bad condition,
but some of things looked a bit worn out.
Rooms looked like any standard room
compared to those in the west.
There was no real Balinese feel,
with the exception that of
the two main buildings,
which are actual bales.
Oh yeah! And from the Balinese that work there!
But the grounds and rooms
were clean and comfortable,
offering a terrace with a comfy sofa.
Rooms surround the main pool area,
facing the sea.
So, everybody gets a view.
There isn’t much of a beach.
Prices at the time of my visit,
ranged between $200 - $385
This can be a good choice for tour groups,
or for those who enjoy staying at
standard, western hotel chains like the Westin.
Mind you, that within this area,
there isn’t much of a choice of
a higher category venues, where to stay.
But that will change,
with the large amount of investments happening in Bali.
Investors are beginning to eye this area.
Give it a few years, and it will come.
Along the main road of Candidasa,
facing the sea is Villa Pantai.
The freestanding villa
can be an excellent option
for local expats trying
to get away for the weekend,
or for those who want the feeling of a villa,
within a reasonable price.
The are two upstairs bedrooms
with ensuite bathrooms
offering a sea view.
Both have a terrace,
but the master has a larger one.
Downstairs, there is a large living and dining room
leading out to the pool.
There is a beach at low tide.
There are neighboring structures.
The in house staff offers full service for your stay.
Within an area where there isn’t a large choice of this type,
this is definitely a place that can be considered an option.
The Amankila is part of the luxurious Aman Group.
Sitting majestically over the sea on the east coast of Bali,
his property offers breath taking views from each
and every of it 34 free standing suites.
All of them, with the exception of one,
are one bedroom suites.
If you want take that special honeymoon,
this can definitely be an option.
This is a property that has been featured in
several travel magazines and travel channels.
Prices are steep,
starting at $675 up to $2,800 a night.
But this could be an experience of a life time
if you have the money to spend.
The suites have their own out door terrace
where private dining can be accommodated.
A few of the suites have their own private swimming pool.
If you don’t choose one with a private swimming pool,
the property has more than one swimming pool to offer.
Bathrooms come with shower and a deep soaking tub.
Sitting at the bottom of the hill is
the Amankila’s Beach house,
nestled in a coconut grove.
It offers a 41 meter lap pool and a restaurant
offering lunch and snacks.
Activities such as windsurfing, kayaks, boogie boards,
hobbie cats, cycling, diving, snorkeling, yoga, spa treatments
are all offered by the venue.
For a very special stay in a very beautiful area of Bali,
this is definitely a good choice!
Just a bit further north along the shore line
from Candidas is Seraya Shores.
Decorated in a Balinese style,
with breaking waves as a backdrop
this place is great place for spending time alone
with your loved one.
Rooms have terraces where you can lay back
and absorb the magical sunrises.
There’s a dining area perched on the shore line.
Some bathrooms have outdoor sculpture showers
Rooms are comfortable.
Definitely a place to stay
if you can spend the day idling away in love.
Yum!!! I want some too!
Breath taking and romantic
A brand new location in Candi Dasa
is Villa Sassoon.
At the time we visited it,
it was still placing the furniture in the villas.
The property is located on a dirt path
off the main road.
Enlcosed on a private property
various villas are available
with a small swimming pool.
You may opt for a complete 2 separate bedroom villa
with swimming pool and living room.
Or just take a bedroom at a cheaper rate.
You do not have a direct sea view,
but it is just a 5 minute walk.
Rooms and bathrooms are spacious.
$50 US for just one bedroom (Good Price!!)
$150 Bedroom with Living Room
$200 2 Bedrooms with Living Room
Peaceful and quite
Very near the beach
Perched on a cliff upon entering
the village of Candi Dasa
is the luxuiorious Amanika,
part of the Aman Resorts chain.
Hopefully while visiting
you shall arrive during the day
to appreciate the wonderful coastal views
as you climb up to the property.
The reception is open air
as it boasts its magnificent views
over looking the swimming pool
which overlapped the sea.
We were able to climb up
the many stairs on their elevated stairway
to visit one of its 34 Suites with
Private Swimming Pool
decorated with alang alang
Balinese roof thatching
Elevator not included.
Even at these prices.
The Suites were overflowing with

Amanresorts Corporate Office:
1 Orchard Spring Lane #05-01
A little hotel on the main street
of Candi Dasa is the Grand Natia.
Even though the sea view
from the pool if fantastic,
there is literally no beach
in front of the property.
Just plenty of rocks.
The rooms though,
are spacious once inside.
But a bit dark,
because of the proximity
between each room.
The bathrooms are also nice
and probably have more light
since there is a small area
which is exposed to the open air.
The venue also has a terrace
next to the pool
which serves breakfast,
along with a restaurant
in the front part of the property.
The best rooms here would be
the sea view rooms
number 906 and 907.
If you are a large family,
taking over this property
could be a good option
considering how close each room is
to each other.
There are the occasional tour groups
that stay at the hotel.
Their published rates are between $50-$85.
Definitely negotiate the rates
considering what else
you could get at that rate
and that they are most probably
willing to reduce the price
to get the business in.
Suggestion: $20 - $30 US per room.
Airport Transfers are offered
at an additional rate.
Further south from the central area of Amed, is the Blue Moon Villas perched on a hillside.
Even though there is not a direct access to the beach, the view is beautiful!
And yet accessible by foot.
Rooms are spacious and are kept very clean.
Large closet space is found in the rooms, for those who need to bring a little bit of everything from back home.
You have the choice of how high of a view you want to go. There are larger apartments for families with common space for gatherings while admiring the sunsets.
Prices range from:
$55 for the Villas
$65 for Apartments
$70 for double rooms
$120 for the Penthouse Villa
$185 for the very large 3 bedroom + 2 living rooms Villa
Rates do not include 15% Tax
But they do include breakfast
I did not stay at Lotus Bungalows, but had considered it through the photos I saw on various web-sites. The grounds of the property are beautiful, and so is the dining area. The bungalows face the sea, but it does not have much of a beach if at all. Unless you are taking the room with air conditioning, they need some renovations. Most bathrooms if not all of them definitely need some update work on them.
I stayed three nights at Kubu Bali. Conveniently located in the center of town, the gardens are beautiful and the staff extra friendly, helpful and adorable. There are plenty of stairs to climb up, so if you don’t feel fit enough, request a bungalow in the lower area.
After your fist night they decorate your bed with flower petals and even write you a thank you note the night before you leave.
The dining area for your morning breakfast is located perched on a high area of the mountain allowing you to sip your coffee or tea while you watch the day begin with a seaview. I was also fortunate enough to see a monkey climbing atop a roof in the distance.
There is also a nice swimming pool. Each bungalow has an individual private entrance way usually with a pond in front with different size fishes swimming. A/C, mosquito nets, hot water, a day bed and terrace are features of each room. In the morning and the afternoon a staff offers to give you a massage for 50,000 RH.
The open air bathrooms are quite nice , but the ones that are not are a bit dark.
The only feature I did not like was the access of various insects into the bungalows. Thank God for the geckos and mosquito nets!
During off season I was able to get the room for $35 a night including tax and breakfast.
Great views at breakfast
Iguana Cafe is best known as the spot to go at night while visiting Candidasa and a favorite among young locals.
On most evenings there is local band playing various tunes from Reggae to Pop songs while food and drinks are served.
It's also another place where to encounter those many Balinese cowboys waiting for an invitation to anything or anywhere.
Behind this area you will find the Iguana Cafe's Bungalows with a swimming pool facing the sea.
I asked to visit the nicest room, which was located right in front of the sea next to another bungalow.
A large bed that probably has seen better days was in the center of the room and a couple of pieces of furniture was about all that it had to say.
A paint job would have not even helped.
Less can be said for the bathrooms.
I asked to see another room so not to judge by only one room, but to my disappointment on seeing it, I thought to myself that probably I should of sticked to the first.
But hey, if you plan to drink all night while listening to the band you can stumble to your room and not bother to turn on the lights.
Rooms run between 140,000 RH to 215,000 RH
Including breakfast and 15% Tax and service charge
Located in front of the sea, the gardens of Kelapa Mas are beautifully kept. A restaurant, library and a computer with internet access are conveniently located on the grounds.
Right next door is the Ashram Gandhi Chandi which offers free 7:00 am yoga classes for early risers.
Some of the bungalows have been refurbished and are probably the best choice for this Homestay. Several activities are offered at the hotel such as snorkeling, motorbike rental, massages, etc. Then again all you have to do is walk out to the street and all of this is accessible.
The Garden Bungalows from B1-4 have been refurbished…but not the bathrooms and costs 150,000 RH.
The family Seaview Bungalow A1 has two floors and probably has the nicest bathroom -costs 250,000 RH.
The other Seaview Bungalows A2-5 costs 150,000 RH
Right in front of the sea
Located on the main road of Candi Dasa, this small paradise garden is filled with ponds and a few bungalows.
The rooms are clean and of great comfort.
If you are not interested in the beach, but rather a pool or day excursions this could be for you the place to go.
They also have a restaurant and bar.
The hotel was almost full when I visited it in low season, so I do not think there is much space for negotiation of the price unless you find a special rate on the internet or with a package deal.
Very beautiful...but not infront of the beach
