Puri Rai: best accomodation in Candidasa
I stayed at the Puri Rai in one of their large aircon rooms. The hotel is well managed and obviously the most upmarket in the area. It has 3 lovely pools. I thought that the breakfast was dismal though.
I also had a look at their new wing which feature enclosed 2 bedroomed villas. Great value.
This is the obvious choice if you are planning to dive in Candidasa. The dive shops are all a stone's throw away from the hotel entrance.

Blue Moon Villas: Romantic haven
If you are looking for a place to relax for a few days or a few weeks, love to gaze at the quiet blue sea dotted with colorful fishing boats, and enjoy beautiful sunsets, then I would certainly recommend the Blue Moon Villas.
When I daydream, I dream that I am back there sitting on a pillow around the low table in the restaurant bar, lounging in the pool staring out to sea,
or watching the beautiful sunset from my upstairs balcony.
You have your choice of several different kinds of accommodations.
There are 2 small free standing cottages with queen bed and fresh air bathrooms.
They also have the large villa that can be divided into accommodations for 3 couples
or you can rent the whole villa. We have done both and none are bad choices.
Unique Quality: Fresh seafood, ocean view, scenic pool, snorkeling, diving, guided tours with car and driver, pool table, beautiful surroundings.

Alila Manggis: The Over rated Alila
A much publicized property
within this area is the Alila Manggis.
As you enter the property,
the coconut grove along with the other lush,
does give it an attractive appeal.
As we visited the property,
we got the feeling that
the property could use a bit of maintenance.
Not that it was in bad condition,
but some of things looked a bit worn out.
Rooms looked like any standard room
compared to those in the west.
There was no real Balinese feel,
with the exception that of
the two main buildings,
which are actual bales.
Oh yeah! And from the Balinese that work there!
But the grounds and rooms
were clean and comfortable,
offering a terrace with a comfy sofa.
Rooms surround the main pool area,
facing the sea.
So, everybody gets a view.
There isn’t much of a beach.
Prices at the time of my visit,
ranged between $200 - $385
This can be a good choice for tour groups,
or for those who enjoy staying at
standard, western hotel chains like the Westin.
Mind you, that within this area,
there isn’t much of a choice of
a higher category venues, where to stay.
But that will change,
with the large amount of investments happening in Bali.
Investors are beginning to eye this area.
Give it a few years, and it will come.

Villa Pantai: Villa style in Candidasa
Along the main road of Candidasa,
facing the sea is Villa Pantai.
The freestanding villa
can be an excellent option
for local expats trying
to get away for the weekend,
or for those who want the feeling of a villa,
within a reasonable price.
The are two upstairs bedrooms
with ensuite bathrooms
offering a sea view.
Both have a terrace,
but the master has a larger one.
Downstairs, there is a large living and dining room
leading out to the pool.
There is a beach at low tide.
There are neighboring structures.
The in house staff offers full service for your stay.
Within an area where there isn’t a large choice of this type,
this is definitely a place that can be considered an option.

The Grand Natia: Tight Space at the Grand Natia – Candi Dasa
A little hotel on the main street
of Candi Dasa is the Grand Natia.
Even though the sea view
from the pool if fantastic,
there is literally no beach
in front of the property.
Just plenty of rocks.
The rooms though,
are spacious once inside.
But a bit dark,
because of the proximity
between each room.
The bathrooms are also nice
and probably have more light
since there is a small area
which is exposed to the open air.
The venue also has a terrace
next to the pool
which serves breakfast,
along with a restaurant
in the front part of the property.
The best rooms here would be
the sea view rooms
number 906 and 907.
If you are a large family,
taking over this property
could be a good option
considering how close each room is
to each other.
There are the occasional tour groups
that stay at the hotel.
Their published rates are between $50-$85.
Definitely negotiate the rates
considering what else
you could get at that rate
and that they are most probably
willing to reduce the price
to get the business in.
Suggestion: $20 - $30 US per room.
Airport Transfers are offered
at an additional rate.
