Beautiful pool, friendly faces

My mom and I loved our stay at the Vira Bali. I was there for 17 days and she was there for 12. Almost every day we walked down to the Discovery Mall/Waterbom vicinity, making a few odd trips away from the area (actually, quite often to the Bali Deli -- we love grocery shopping together!) I was on leave from a deployment, so I was very excited to find a full bathtub in my room since we don't quite have those over there. The shower was nice and powerful too.

The breakfast buffet was generous, and very luckily for me, it stayed open until 10 (maybe 11, it's been more than a month now). I'm not at all a morning person and usually miss out on breakfast buffets, but I didn't miss this one!

The spa was relaxing; I got a body scrub/massage/aromatherapy package the first day, and it erased every kink in my muscles from the nearly 3 days of travelling to get there, and the traditional music playing in the background was hypnotizing. The pedicure wasn't the best of what I've had, and it would be great if they had more nail polish colors. But the treatments were reasonably priced and I'm still trying to recreate the tea they gave me before a massage.

The staff was very friendly. One or two times they didn't quite get what I was asking for, but overall, it felt like home (although without snow!). I missed breakfast two mornings, and when I went back they asked if I was okay.

I had the long-stay package, which gave me discounts on laundry service and in the restaurant and spa, and an upgrade to the deluxe room for $72 US per night.

The only problems I had were with the lunch/dinner food offerings, which weren't that great; I had really great pancakes my first day but they weren't ever the same after that, and I had a spa appointment cancelled accidentally my first full day. Aside from that, I would stay there again and again. Oh, and to get a pool towel you have to go to the front desk, and then to get to the pool quickest you have to go through the restaurant from there... that was a little odd.

But overall, very nice stay.

Unique Quality: This may be very unique: I have to commend the laundry service. My first full day in Bali I went to get an airbrush tan so I wouldn't be so tempted to stay in the sun too long. Well, that night it rained and I sweated while dancing at the Hard Rock. My "tan" melted all over my white sundress (I know, not the smartest choice). But when it came back from the laundry, every speck of color was gone.

And the pool was gorgeous. They could use a little more room for the lawn chairs, and maybe a few more tables or stands to put drinks/food on, but aside from that, the pool and the greenery around it were very pretty.

The Vira Bali Hotel one of the finest accommodations that are rich in inspiration of local culture. Having the typical character of Balinese custom and culture that is friendly and family atmosphere oriented is the icon of this hotel which makes us and you are just like one big family. The Vira Bali Hotel successfully combines modern and minimalist styling with gentle Balinese hospitality to create a haven of peace and tranquility that is hard to find in the other larger properties nearby.

by Aloe9678 about Il Cielo

Il Cielo was right down the street from our hotel, the Vira Bali, but when you went under the awning, you had a view of people walking down the street without as much of the heat or rain. They kept a candle on each table, and the waitresses visited often enough without being pushy. The price was great as well. I swear, I had the pizza margherita almost every day, and it was perfectly proportioned every single time. The crust was thin, a little crispy and fully cooked without being overdone; and the sauce and cheese didn't overwhelm the crust. My mom tried a few of the other toppings, and she was very happy as well. The pizza only came in one size and it was just enough for one person.

I'm a huge pizza fanatic and hadn't been able to get pizza for about seven months prior to my visiting Bali, so I drooled almost every time we walked past this restaurant.

We started out getting individual glasses of Hatten Rose when we started going, but a couple times when we went a little later we sprung for the bottle when we were feeling especially chatty!

I think they served other Italian food, but I was quite content with my little pizza.

tailors

by Halps1

hi guys i am heading too bali on monday, was thinking of getting a couple suits made.
wanted to know if anyone knew a good tailor? and what price should i pay?
thanks.

Re: tailors

There are some excellent tailors here in Bali...mostly Chinese, and you will find them in Denpasar. My personal advice on tailors is to keep that to Bangkok and Hong Kong...when it comes to western style business suits. But, if Jakarta is on your itinerary, then fine.

If you are committed, then ask your driver to take you to the pusar kain, or fabric market in Denpasar.

Thanking the Gods, I haven’t worn a business suit in over ten years. But, I do have my safari jackets (for temple) tailored by a local woman in my village from Thompson silk I occasionally buy in Bangkok.

Try Anika Tailor located in Jl.Kartika Plaza just close to the Vira Bali Hotel/ St Joseph Cathedral .
