Bamboo poles
The streets of the villages are decorated with bamboo poles known as penjor, in preparation for a temple festival.
When we drove in from the airport I saw these poles decorated and wondered what they were for.

De Munut Cottages are in a great location, just off Jalan Campuhan and 10 minutes walk from the centre of Ubud. Rooms are quite large and clean, and many have an 'outside' bathroom. The grounds are quiet as they are well back from main roads. The gardens are well kept and the pool is a reasonable size. My only concern was the breakfast, very little choice, and difficult to get an extra coffee! Prices have gone up considerable since it changed hands - book rooms from an 'accommodation' site and not directly from the De Munut web site as you can get better quality accommodation in Ubud for the prices quoted on the direct web site. At $35 -40 US which was the price a couple of years ago, good value, but not at $60 - 80 as currently quoted on the web site.
Unique Quality: Very helpful staff, more than willing to make phone calls and bookings for you. Will contact restaurants and arrange free pick up/transport to the restaurants.

It's a family run business. A young lady was seen laboriously beading the purse with her skilful hands. Each bead was threaded carefully onto the piece of cloth which will then form into a purse. Handsewn beaded purse.
See another picture attached on the end product - a beautiful beaded purse!
Besides beaded purse, you can also buy beaded bracelets and necklaces - ranging from 15,000Rp to 20,000Rp 80,000Rp to 100,000Rp
Casa Luna is along Jalan Raya, Bali main road, it is one of the famous restaurants in Bali, for its Mediterranean and Balinese dishes. But I went there for their mouth watering desserts, especially cake selections.
Its al fresco dining on a tropical seating, the tables by the cliff are most sought after, great view.
There is a gallery as well connected, that features paintings of local Ubud artists. Fantastic dessert selections, all freshly baked... I order a Tiramisu cake, yummy..really delicious.
starting trip to ubud from gianyar you can find an intersection with a unique giant baby statue. normally, in other intersection you'll find rangda, barong, leak or others heroic balinese figures from their famous legends.
but exception could be happened in here. a baby as a monument! said that locals so often listening baby's cry in the middle of the night in this area so they build this statue. and ever since can not be heard his voice anymore.
* this baby is one of nicholas and @rie's fave statue around ubud :) *
If you like Indonesian food, what about having a cooking lesson at Casa Luna? Besides being a guesthouse, the Casa Luna has cooking classes.
Usually the classes begin with a visit to the Ubud food market followed by the lesson. It's a fun way to spend some time while you learn how to make tasty balinese food.
