A place of culture

- Sitting on our porch drinking bintang.
- The walks into the middle of knowhere. Monkeys, smiling faces, the boy who tried to sell us a newspaper each day, the calls of "transport, transport" and the friendly banter with the shopkeepers.
The school kids of Nyuhkuning
by Tijavi
Nyuhkuning is one of the quiet villages surrounding Ubud. It could be accessed through the Monkey Forest Sanctuary.
It was a schoolday when I visited Nyuhkuning. As I reached the village center, I was warmly greeted by pupils in the village school - some speaking very good English. I had a great time chatting with them - they know a lot about the Philippines! - and taking snaps.
I wish I had brought candies and chocolates with me for these kids - I'm pretty sure they would have appreciated these tokens.
Fine dining without dress code
by Restless-in-kl about Ary's Warung
This is a stylish side-walk bistro in the center of town with creative oriental/international cuisine and a choice of interesting vegetarian dishes.
Expect delicacies such as Lobster Wonton, Tuna Parfait with caviar and Wasabi cream, Seared Sea Scallops, Sauted Green Pepercorn Pate with green papaya salad, Carpaccio of Venison, Steamed Snapper with red chilli butter, Jumbo River Prawns sauted with chilli, garlic and ginger, deboned Roasted Quail, Rack of Lamb with chilli mint sauce, and Roasted Veal Cutlets with Wasabi butter. The desserts are equally creative.
Service is so-so, can be better to suit the ambience. I had the rack of lamb with chilli mint sauce which was very good. The meat is tender to the point that it melts in your mouth and the sauce is yummy.

scary creatures?
by aussiejen
While we were walking in to town one day from our hotel we came across these "creatures" being taken to a temple for a special ceremony later that day.
They were so tall that the power lines had to be lifted up for them to pass underneath. The poor guys that had that task were busy running ahead of the vehicles, waiting for them to pass then running ahead again! No mean feat in that heat!!
