"Champlung Sari Hotel, Monkey Forest Street"
Disappointing hotel, old & dilapadated without ameneties. The sidewalks making walking around difficult. Men offering us rides in their cars were aggressive.
Visited Kertagosa, bat cave temple at Klungking, cultural center, Royal Court of Justic, Pura Besakin a 1,000 year old Temple and a sacred volcano with 30 more temples. The Legong Dance was pleasant.

Ubud Accommodation....
by Princi62
My friends have asked me to find some accommodation for them in Ubud as I have travelled to Bali quite a few times. I am trying to locate a website for Cendana Resort & Spa in Ubud but have had no luck. Does anyone know of a website or email address for this hotel?
Also if anyone has stayed at the Pertiwi Resort or Champlung Sari both on Monkey Forest Road would you please let me know what you thought of both Hotels ie. cleanliness, cost, location and any general comments.
I previously stayed at Artini II Cottages on Jalan Hanoman which is a gorgeous little hotel and brilliantly priced. However, the only downfall is that it's a bit of a walk to get to the restaurants and shopping on Monkey Forest Road, hence why my friends are looking for accommodation on Monkey Forest.
Thanks....

I stayed in Pertiwi. The room was just ok. Nothing to shout about. But the swimming pool was fantastic. The compound of the hotel doesn't look very big from the entrance but it is huge inside.
On my another trip to Ubud I also stayed at Ulun Ubud, which is not really right in town. It is about 5-10 minutes drive away but they provide free shuttle into town. Costlier than Pertiwi but it does feel slightly more exclusive, the villas are perched overlooking the river. Nice balcony.

Hi,
I have always enjoyed staying at Junias House in Penestan Ubud.
Here is some information I was allowed to post on Indahnesia.com as I ahve contributed over 100 useful posts of information over the years.

plus photos here http://travel.webshots.com/album/475000173FhIzvU
which show the updated gardens.
There is no pool at Junias House, but for a small fee June the owner has negotiated use of pools near by.
Pamela.

I have stayed at the Cendana before and it was very good as it has a great pool which looks over the rices fields and location is great - make sure you try Lemak. Last trip stayed at the Komaneka on Monkey Forest road and this was fantastic. I have had friends stay at the Champlung Sari and they did not like it at all, though this was a few years ago but the staff were not friendly, rooms small and dingy.

Travel Tips for Ubud
Best Balinese style roast pig
by joyful_sun about Ibu-Oka Babi Guling
The locals' favorite joint ... ambiance ..uh..very 'down to earth', not your typical date restaurant, but they sure serve the best roasted pig in town..correction...in the world!! Babi Guling..Balinese style roasted suckling pig
Great grills
by Tijavi about Nomad
One of the similarities between Filipino and Indonesian cuisines is their simplicity. More often than not, the simple act of grilling has been elevated by the Indonesians and Filipinos to an art - locking in the fresh flavors of local catch by simply cooking over fire, with a dash of indigenous herbs and spices to tickle the tastebuds.
This art of grilling can be sampled in Nomad. The grilled prawns I ordered attest to this - with a subtle hint of lemon and pepper, the prawns' succulent and juicy flesh have been perfectly sealed in, for me to enjoy, with my Chilean white. The restaurant is known for their grilled specialities.
Monkey Forest Sanctuary

About a kilometre south of Ubud is a small heavily forested reserve (Mandala Wisata Wanara Wana) that you can visit for a fee of around 7,000Rp (this had doubled because of the Bali tourist crisis, and may have increased further since!), which gets you a map of the reserve and some rules such as the fact that the monkeys within may snatch possessions and can bite at times!
The monkeys in the forest are called Balinese or long tailed macaques and apparently there over 100 in the reserve.
The adult males are the larger monkeys with the big teeth and can weigh up to 10 kilograms. The females are a bit smaller and weigh up to eight kilograms and you can tell individual monkeys apart by their 'moustaches'...
Most of the baby monkeys are born during May to August and the parents are very protective of their babies, so do not get between mum and a baby as she may get upset - and bite you!
Remember it is important to treat monkeys with respect, as this is their home. You will also be asked to stay on the paved paths as the monkeys may become aggressive if you stray into their home areas - and bite you!
The reserve seems well run with plenty of wardens on hand if need be.
You can buy small bananas from the old women at the entrance for a fairly exhorbitant fee, or bring your own.
Also, if you wish to visit the Temple Complex within the reserve remember to bring a sarong and sash to put over your clothes - you can borrow them for a donation (see picture) at the temple entrance.
Another thing to be wary of are the gigantic mosquitoes that swarm the park - that day I decided to wear my 'breathable' t-shirt because of the humidity and they had a field day on my back!!! :-(
Monkey Forest

Don´t miss this. The monkey is taking everything you give them and they are very quick so hold on to your valuables. The monkeys are everywere running, fighting, jumping.
This is something you must se when you´r in Bali.
