Flower Offerings
by arni_ph075
Flower offerings can be seen on temples and on doorstep of almost all Bali stores, big or small shops. It is also widely sold in the Ubud market every morning. Offering to the Gods.
A burst of flower blossoms and petals, placed on a some sort of green palms.
Gua Gajah (Elephant Cave)
by M0B1US
For a nominal fee you can visit this heavily touristed site is about 2km east from Ubud along the road to Gianyar (Orange Bemo Bus). Apparently you can walk here along the Pejeng and Bedulu walk, which could be nice as it cuts through a forested river valley - though much of it appears to run parallel to the main road, so only do it if you can afford the time...
Situated in a gully, Gua Gajah was rediscovered in the 1920's and seems to have been a Buddhist hermitage or monastery from the 11th century. In the main courtyard there is an impressive bath that still works despite being buried for hundreds of years. Facing this is the cave entrance above which is an enormous demon's head that looks like it is thrusting itself through the rock by holding it open with its hands.
You will need a candle supplied by an attendant who will show you inside the dank creepy interior which only consists of a t-shaped passageway with several nooks probably used as meditation cells or sleeping chambers.
At the opposite side of the courtyard a track leads down to a small forested river valley strewn with broken statues and bas reliefs - a stone bridge over the river leads you to a small cavern containing two ancient statues of Buddha.
Watch out for the 'guides' here, who will come over and talk to you about the site and then expect to be paid afterwards - my one didn't seem to appreciate my tip, which equalled the cost of the entry...
Oh well.
antique cake and bakery shop
by ukirsari about chantique kedai kopi
the thing we like from this kedai [small coffee shop], the design refer to the old era. wooden tables and chairs, old pictures and traditional children play named "congklak" [or dakon in javanese lingo] on the table. we did enjoy to have some cake here after spending day cycling around ubud. iced cappuccino, black forest cake and rum boll.
My Favorite Little Hole in the Wall Restaurant
by SFHulaGIrl about Warung Laba-Laba
I make sure to eat at this restaurant several times on each trip to Ubud. It's somewhat small, the service is friendly, portions are ample, & the food is good, filling & inexpensive. I love their mie goreng, their nasi goreng special (26,000 IDR) & their mie ayam. My significant other thought they had the best spring rolls (i.e. more like egg rolls) he'd ever tasted. A small water is 35000 IDR, & there's 10% tax.
the land of terraced padi fields
by ukirsari
many places in bali offers you beautiful padi fields. but in ubud area, seems so lush, greenery and superb! this picture from my camera ... is the same location taken with .. maybe thousand tourists and also in many guide and travel books around the world. very famous :)
best terraced padi fields in ubud and around, from my personal thought are situated at pengosekan, peliatan, ubud central, jatiluwih and direction to mount batukaru.
