Inexpensive Losman?

by robbibaba

We're hoping to find a nice but inexpensive losman in Ubud or very close. Have heard the Hibiscus is nice, but can't seem to find it on the web. Any recommendations or ideas? We hope to spend less than $10 night for extended stay. Are there still places for less than $5 night?
Many thanks
rob

$5 / night

by hunwagner

That's pretty much the bottom limit.
But you can still find many losmen in that range, especially if you stay long and are ready to pay a monthly (rate) in advance. There are so many budget losmen in Ubud that recommending any particular one makes little sense. Just walk around after arriving there and check out several. Places tucked away down side-roads a bit out of the centre will be quieter, friendlier and cheaper. Forget about booking any in advance!

Stayed last month at a losmen in Monkey Forest Road called Dewi Ayu 1. It's on the right hand side going down Monkey Forest Road, about halfway between the Jalan Dewi Sita and the Monkey Forest and opposite the Ubud Restaurant and Fibra Inn.

It's simple accommodation but very comfortable and quiet. The manager, Gede is very pleasant and extremely helpful.

Room rates including breakfast and tax are Rp60,000 (US$6.50) for older rooms nearer the road and Rp80,000 (US$8.50) for newer rooms, further down the property. I'm sure you can negotiate a better price for a longer stay.

Have a look at this site for write-up and photos.

Here's a link for booking Hibiscus Homestay, but as you'll see the prices are rather inflated.

Don't know if this info is a bit too late... you could be in Ubud already. I have stayed in Wena homestay, Jl Goutama in Ubud town - accessible to all areas around Ubud. Clean and comfortable. 1 double bed with fan and cold showers is only 50,000Rp (less than usd10). The one which is slightly bigger and with hot showers you need to pay 75,000Rp - value for money. The only downside is they have only 4 units in the homestay and usually it's full. You can try your luck. Otherwise, you can just go along Jl Goutama - there are plenty more there.. If you need to view the room and the ambience offered by Wena homestay, take a look at my travelpage on Ubud, under "Hotels & Accomodation". Have fun in Ubud - really nice!

Offerings to the gods

by kenyneo

Well they come in a small tray the size of the palm and are filled with fresh and bright colour flowers , and is often accompanied by an incense ,,you can see them everywhere you go ...especially on the road pavements in front of all the shops ...so watch your steps...!

Cheap drinks & foodstuff

by myspices about Bintang Supermarket

If you are on your way to Neka Museum, do ask your cab driver to stop by this supermarket to get a stock of your beer, soft drinks and mineral waters. Prices here are comparatively cheaper than any other shops in Ubud. The foodstuffs here are also reasonable. Besides, drinks and foodstuffs, there is a departmental store. Mostly drinks and foodstuffs.

Canned beer at 7,000Rp each Fixed prices

Thai restaurant in Ubud

by wobbegong

There's a fantastic Thai restaurant up one end of Monkey Forest Road in Ubud.

The tables are set in little thatch-roofed raised platforms, and at night the candles make it a magical place.

When it rains it adds to the atmosphere. The water flows along the path between the thatched "bungalows" and little lotus-filled ponds. The frogs come out and add to the tropical feel with their cacophany of sound.

We ate there several times during our stay and the food was excellent. The food , coupled with the atmosphere make this my favourite Thai restaurant in the world ! Thai green curry served in a coconut shell, on plates layered with coconut leaves.

Ubud Palace

by austarman

It is interesting to see where the Royal family once lived and to see the history that goes back to the 16th century.
You can even stay here if you want as many of the rooms in the palace have been made into guest rooms.

Crying baby's voice

by Goldenboy

This is for those who believe. Well.. it is Bali, and you will deal with many to believe. This baby was built as a result of elders meditation. After every night there always voices crying baby on the air, these elders take action. Some kind of revelation they got, they have to built a statue as a sheelter for the spirit. And after this statue was built -- and maintained with routine offering -- theres no more crying baby on the air.
