Gorgeous Batik Shirts
by SFHulaGIrl about Mutiara
Medium-sized shop with relatively friendly service, not far from Tino Supermarket. There is a wide selection of batik shirts for men, either cotton or rayon, from sizes Small to Extra Large. Most shirts cost the equivalent of US$10.00, though the Extra Large shirts cost a tiny bit more.
Surrounded by beauty
by Restless-in-kl about Cafe Lotus
Located in the center of Ubud between the main street and a large, beautiful lotus pond in front of a temple (designed by the famous artist I Gusti Nyoman Lempad) this pleasant open-air restaurant serves a variety of Italian pasta dishes, some Asian and local specialties such as the Balinese duck ‘Bebek Betutu’, and a good choice of cakes and fruit juices. Although the prices here are quite steep for Ubud standards, CAFE LOTUS is busy the whole day.
Go very early or very late for lunch and dinner to get a table by the lotus pond. You can choose from the low tables where you sit on the floor on cushions or the standard dining option. Though this restaurant was highly rated in most guidebooks, I didn't find it very interesting. I guess I would only come here to enjoy the lotus pond and temple (which you can without dining at the cafe but you'll need to pay a small admission fee)
Puri Saren Agung Palace
by hassan_abu
Puri Saren Agung is the central palace where the public dance performances are held. Located at the northeast corner of the central cross-roads, it's pretty hard to miss. It was the home of the last "king" of Ubud, and now his descendants live there. It is essentially the "father palace" of the other Ubud palaces, which are more or less its "spinoffs," built as the family extended. It was also Ubud's first hotel, opening its doors to paying visitors in the 1930s. Still operated as a small homestay style hotel. Parts of the gardens and some of the bales are quite grand and formal, with generous lashing of prada (gold leaf) applied to the carved woodwork.
Feeding time at Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary
by myspices
Feeding time is an interesting time to watch the macaques. The Wenara Wana staff will feed them with bananas and other fruits, usually in the Central Area in the Forest Sanctuary. We had a chance to see the feeding time at about 10.30am. The monkeys & their little ones will gather around waiting for the food to be "distributed". Some of these macaques are pretty notorious - they can be seen snatching food from each other. The macaques are good swimmers too. Once the staff of the forest threw some bananas right into the pond in the Central Area, the monkeys just "dived in" for the bananas. If you wish to feed the macaques, you will need to do it carefully - if they come forth to take food from you, do not attempt to retrieve it as this will anger the creature and they will turn rebellious. Absolutely do not tease or provoke the monkeys for any reason.
