Best secluded gateway

Here are some of the tips:
1. Not for tourists who expect walk distance sights.
The place is for those who like to enjoy Java island within car-distance.

2. It is for best for people who got tired with city noise, as the place is quiet and secluded. Jakartanese or expats would love this place because you simple 'do nothing or being lazy' here while breathing fresh air. Recently, they create a new 'wellness' concept so there will be some healthy/sport activities to do.

3. For tourists from far away, to make the stay here worthy, they can make a plan to visit some nearby car-distance sights/town eg. Jogja (Prambanan, Sultan Palace etc), Solo, Semarang, Magelang (Borobudur), Dieng Plateau (Candi Sewu), Jepara (traditional javanese furnitures), the beaches at the far south coast or the Karimunjawa islands in the northern off-coast .

Unique Quality: The historical colonial building mixed with javanese traditional architecture/building is the signature of this place. Absolutely unique and one of a kind. I feel more special to be able to visit this place rather than visiting boring regular hotels.

"Global View of Magelang"

Talking Magelang is exactly discussing about 2 administratively different towns. They're Kota Magelang and Magelang Regency. They were under the same government, but then separated into two governmentary system to increase the effectivity in serving the residents. Here's the global view of Kota Magelang

"Piece of Beauty"

As a City upon mountains, Magelang has lots of beautiful scenery. It's also gifted by fertile soil from Merapi Mountains lava. But what make it most worth enough to visit is Its assets in many aspects likes ancient heritage and unique culture of its society such as sedekah bumi and more. Here, Magelang at a glance....

Travel Tips for Magelang

the river "Progo"

by kilat

The river the Progo ("kali Progo") is a beautifull river on the east side of Magelang. It streams from north to south.
It may look a little brown, it is sand, coming down from the mountain. If there has been a lot of heavy rain, the stream will be very strong and the river may flood.

Magelang - it felt like home!

by kilat

"Magelang!!!"

Finally, after so many years I got the oppurtunity to see where my father was born. And It felt like home in a very short time. I loved especially the people, they are so nice and calm.
It is a small city, but changed a lot in the almost 60 years after my father had to leave. We had luck: we found the street he had lived, the river where he used to play with his friends (I even took a bath in that river), the church he was baptized, the house of his mothers dentist.

"kali Progo"

The kali Progo, at the west of Magelang. Sometimes, when it has rained a lot, the stream will be wild, the river can overfload and get brown from the sand coming down from the mountain. Magelang is close to the Merapi and to the Borobudur. Although I haven't been there. I was busy talking with everybody on the streets, translating for my parents and organize everything. But it didn't matter at all. I came here for the history of my father, to see the country and to meet the Indonesian people.

"a boy in Magelang"

Close to the "kali" (river) is this boy playing with his kite. It's a sunny day, it will starting raining late in the afternoon. Not always, sometimes it is already starting around 13.00 o'clock, and it won't stop before you go to bed. We had a few good days, and a few very bad days. This was one of the good days.

I missed Magelang and the people there from the moment I left. I loved the song coming from the mosque several times a day. The sound was as sweet as the people who live here. So I want to go back as soon as I can afford it.

Welcome to Magelang Central Java

by meiyergani

"Merapi and Merbabu POINT"

The area which I've been visiting recently is belong to Magelang District, it was Welknown as KETEP PASS, here we can see five peaks Mountains of Central Java: Mount Merapi (2,911 meters) on the Central Java-Yogyakarta border, Mount Merbabu (3,142), Kabupaten Magelang (Central Java), Mount Sindoro (3,135), Temanggung (Central Java), Mount Sumbing (3,321), also in Temanggung, and Mount Slamet (3,428), Banyumas, Central Java. , but two mountains, MERBABU and MERAPI are Peculiar, one can see both of Mountain Clearly and closely

"Closely Watching the Peak of Mount Merapi"

Ketep Pass located at Sawangan, under the Magelang District Administration, it was 30 km away from Magelang city. It was an amazing experience to watch an active Volcano of Mount Merapi from A Safely Short Distance away, visitors can observe the peak of Mount Merapi clearly in the day if weather is good and also the thuderous sound of the volcano expelling lava sometime can be heard from Ketep
Ketep Pass is A Hill resort lied at 1200 meters above sea level, where one can see Merapi Eruption Clearly in the Day and the red fire out from Volcano when the Lava expell in the dark of thenight

"Magelang Down Town"

Magelang can be reach via Yogyakarta, it takes about 45 minutes by Bus from Yogyakarta JOMBOR Bus station. Magelang is not so crowded than Yogyakarta. The city is one of former Dutch Army Base Camp in the era of Dutch Colonialisation, that is why we can find many olds building with Dutch style in construction and architecture

it's all about BOROBUDUR temple

by dew_shinoda

"Borobudur temple"

Borobudur is A ruined Buddhist shrine in central Java, Indonesia. Dating probably from the ninth century, the ruins include intricately carved stone blocks illustrating episodes in the life of Buddha.

Buddhist monument in central Java, built c. 778 – 850 under the Shailendra dynasty. Constructed with about 2 million cu ft (57,000 cu m) of gray volcanic stone, it resembles a stepped pyramid. Its base and first five terraces are square; the highest three terraces are circular. Reliefs on its terrace walls represent the ascending stages of enlightenment. The simple and spacious upper circular terraces carry 72 bell-shaped stupas, each containing a statue of the Buddha.

Borobudur temple located at Magelang, the region located approximately 40 kilometres nothwest of Jogjakarta.

it's best to see in the sunset.

entrance fee for international visitors : 80,000 idr/around 10 dollars
local: 6000 idr

"Touching the thumb of the statue myth"

there's a myth that if you could touch the thumb of the statue inside of the stupa, you could ask for anything you want.

believe it or not... but that has been myth for all tourist there.
