Hi,
Normally we do Yogyakarta-Solo-Malang-Bromo-Ijen-Bali.
However, if your flight arrive in Solo first, you can do like your arrangement. You can take train to Malang from Yogya.
Happy travelling

Hi,

Of course is possible to start your program in Solo. The Solo airport is an international one, where you can get Visa On Arrival. If you fly to Kuala Lumpur, you can take an AirAsia (budget) flight to Solo from there. (There maybe others, which I don't know of.)
And even if you arrive in Yogya, it is only about one hour by train or car from Yogya to Solo.
Then after you have done what you want to do in Solo, you can go (or go back) to Yogya. I think it is best to arrange for your Malang-Bromo-Ijen-Bali itinirary in Yogya, as there you find the most experienced travel agents.

Cheers,
Theo

Travel Tips for Solo

Of Road Signs and Javanese Scripts

by bpacker

If you look at the road signs in Solo carefully, you'll notice that it's written in Indonesian (Roman alphabet) and what appears to be a curly, hindu-like scipt. I found out later that it wasn't Sanskrit at all but 'hanacaraka', a Javanese script that could only be deciphered by a few locals.

Goodies from a Jamu Store

by bpacker

Traditional herbal medicine known as Jamu spills out a shop in Kota Gede. You'll find a cure for everything and anything over here that is made from leaves, fruits, roots, flowers and bark, etc. The yellow packet that you see below contains sulphur that is mined from volcanic mountains nearby. It's rumoured to cure acne!

Where: Pasar Gede

What: Run out of Viagra? Ask for Sari Rapet if you're a lady or Kuat Lekaki (strong man) if you're a man. It's rumoured to increase your libido;p .

TENGKLENG YU EDY

by ancient_traveler

What is tengkleng? Lamb gulay maybe the nearest example to describe Tengkleng, for those who never taste it. The main difference is ofcourse in its taste and sauce. Lamb gulay use coconut milk in its sauce, while Tengkleng is not. So, one of cholesterol source is eliminated!

Beside, Tengkleng consists of lamb bones with only a little chunk of meat attached on it. As an additional, one could add lamb satay, chicken intestine satay, lamb innards satay, lamb brain, and many other parts of lamb that cooked together with the bones, like eyes, cheek, ear, and lamb womb (Javanese use to call it klepon).

The delicious taste of Tengkleng come when you bite and discovering the bone to get a litle chunk of meat from it or when you suck the bone to enjoy the inner liquid on the spinal cord.
