Camplong Hotel: Nice try, but ...
For a short trip to Madura we chose Hotel Camplong near Sampang for the beach. But the beach was disappointing, therefore we stayed only one night instead of the intended two.
The hotel itself was as good as can be expected on Madura Island, that still is catching up on Java. The concept seemed attractive enough: small units in a garden setting with parking in front of the rooms. Yet the whole looked a bit funky, perhaps for lack of business. We chose the older wooden rooms over the newer brick ones, because of the space: two double beds and room to spare. Some renovation had clearly been done on the room. The tiling of the bathroom was brand new - but why renovate a “bak mandi” instead of installing a shower?
If the place were spic and span they might ask more than the price we paid: Rp 275,000 for room and modest buffet breakfast. The restaurant was not that bad. Cap cay goreng for Rp 20,000; nasi goreng Rp 17,000; soda gembira Rp 15,000. Prices of May 2014.
