Kusuma agro or Surya Indah

by ikira

Hi Vts

I will be arriving in Batu Malang from Jogja during 20th May.
Is now the season for apple, orange ?
Our agent recommend us to stay at Kusuma agro and we saw a blog recommending Surya Indah. Both also in Batu. Which one is more worth the money?

As we only have one night in Batu. The next day after lunch we will depart to Bromo. Is Kusuma Agro too "much" for us? Shall we go for cheaper accomodation? Any good recommendation?

id we stay in Budget hostel, we can we go to visit Apple plantation? Can we enter kusuma agro just by bying their 20 000 rph ticket?

Please advice.. many thanks.

Hi Ikira,

A partial answer to your questions. We just passed by Kusuma Agro and found that one can visit the plantation without staying at the hotel. When you stay at the hotel a plantation tour is free. When not, you pay a rate of Rp 30,000 to 40,000 - the main difference in price being the consumptions you take on the tour.

Hi Theo

Thanks for your feedback.
You in Batu now?

Do you know this accomodation at Batu?
Pondok Jatim Park. Is the location of this place is ok?

Hi Ikira,

We did not go to Batu again after all. Spent two days in Malang, a day on the south coast and a day driving to Ranu Pane (close to Bromo).
Looking at the map, Pondok Jatim Park is not far from the Batu market, in the centre of Batu town. It is farther from Kusuma, but that's because Kusuma is in the countryside on the outskirts of Batu.
Pondok Jatim Park is - of course - close to Jawa Timur Park, they have the same management. Jawa Timor Park is a playground with attractions like flying fox, roller coaster, atc.

PS. We went to Agrowisata Poncokusumo, which is a village east of Malang. Found that the harvest season for apples was finished there. Don't know whether that will be true for Kusuma also.

Have a nice trip,
Theo

Coban Pelangi waterfall

by theo1006

One of many waterfalls there must be around Semeru mountain. This one is easily accessed from the road to Ngadas and Bromo. Coban is the local word for waterfall and Pelangi means rainbow. However, when we went there the light must have been not right, we saw no rainbow. We suppose the sun must shine from the right direction into the ravine.

From the parking a 1.5 km footpath leads down across the river and then uphill to the foot of the 30 m fall. Unfortunately the water falls among big rocks, no chance to take a dip.

Address: Gubukklakah village, Poncokusumo district.

Directions: From Malang take the road east to Bromo, via Tumpang and Gubukklakah (see tip The Back Door to Bromo). On leaving Gubukklakah you pass a porch. At 2 km from the porch is a small parking with the entrance gate to Coban Pelangi.
