At Ngliyep Beach you can walk up the rocky mountain and, feel the violence of the waves lashing the shore. All is vibrating ... quavering! Up on the mountain there is a small makam, kuburan (cemetry Gunung Kombang). It is not known by tourists. It is the exact place where the Labuhan Ceremony reaches its peak. Here a goat's head is thrown into the Indian Ocean to tune the Goddess of the Indian Ocean's favour.

The Gunung Kombang is known in West-Java, too, and transmits the myth of the rising of the famous Majapahit Kingdom. Raden Susuruh is believed to have founded the Majapahit Empire, instructed by the seer Cimara Tunggal (corresponding with Ratu Kidul). "Nostalgic Malang"

The climate in Malang used to be cool and pleasant. But now it is become a hectic town with lots of angkot (small minivan as public transportation), delman (horse carriage), becak (tricycle).
Eventhough the touch of old town still there, with its beautiful old dutch buildings, cathedral (situated next to the shopping center in downtown), alun-alun (downtown square) well maintained.
It is somehow still a pleasant town to visit. Nearby mountain resorts called batu. where the cooling climate and situated in the feet of mound panderman. malang can be reached by air from jakarta, rail or land from jakarta or other cities in java island.
