what temperature range will I be expecting high up in Bromo for sunrise watching?
Well, when you starts from the hillfoot, the temperature is around 15 - 16 degree. However, it is much colder up at the peak where your are watching the sunrise. I would recommend you bring a thick clothes with you.
Hi Divecat, thank you for that tip. Did you climb up to Bromo? How long will it take me to climb up there? Is it easy for someone who do alot of walking but little exercise? Climbing is fun though but I fear I may not have the necessary equipement and experience to climb on my own. Otherwise, I had better hire a car up.

in my last visit it was around 10 C, I guess it goes colder this month...
I rented a minibus from surabaya to Bromo (including very helpful driver) and took 3 hour to get there.and spend the night at Lava View Lodge Hotel just next to the caldera.
then I took horse ride (offered by the locals) at 04am from my hotel (Lava View Lodge)to the foot hill about 40 minutes (around 1-2km) just next to the ladder.
then we can climb the ladder in 5 minutes to the hill top watching the sun rise around 5am..

During the Dutch occupation (before and after World War II), Surabaya had so many old buildings in European-style. And they're still exist nowadays. I do like these old buildings, so I always enjoy to go around to see them. Tugu Pahlawan and Kepanjen area, Darmo area and Jembatan Merah (or the Red Bridge in English) area are the districts which have so many old buildings in Dutch and British style.

Designed by Erich Kremmer, Yani is the oldest golf course in Surabaya... Played to 5,608m from the regular tee, it is a nice 18-holes course built on hilly terrains with tree-line narrow fairways...
The club has a simple golfer's terrance for drinks and a simple meal after a game... The changing room is basic but functional...
BECAK - This is a traditional transportation - a tricycle pedaled by a man who sits behind the passenger. Becak’s seat is enough only for two persons. You need to bargain with the becak driver for the rate. Try it, and have fun.

You don't need to order as they will fill your table with small plates of various dishes. You take what you want and leave unwanted dishes untouched and they will calculate the cost based on what you ate at the end. Very interesting! Various kinds of padang food, such as beef rendang, egg balado (fried boiled eggs in chilli sauce), etc. Most of the dishes are very spicy, so watch out!
