Hi,
I am planning for solo trip to Mt. Bromo in this year. Anyone can tell me when is the best time to visit ? Is it safe to travel alone ?

What do you mean by the best time?
If it is the time of the day then it is sunrise and if you ask about part of the year then it is better to visit in non-rainy season.
Dry season is May through October. Best time to visit May or September, so as to avoid the peak months June through August. It can be pretty crowded on Bromo.
Travelling on Java is as safe as travelling anywhere can be. Just take good care of your belongings in crowded places - in towns where there are many tourists there will be pickpockets. But in the province like at Bromo people are actually quite honest.
Surabaya is a great place to stay, but you should be aware off rainy season. We stayed there for a short week in rainy season and watched the rain rise to about half a meter in the streets! Suddenly everywhere boys sell umbrella's and as soon as the sun comes out, they're gone. Hotels often have great bars, as we found out here... Just walk in and have a great time watching Indonesians do some tango and walsing.....
Major credit cards such as VISA, MASTER, and AMEX are widely accepted in Surabaya as well as in many other cities in Indonesia.
For ATM, you can search for the sign of "BCA ATM" with blue and white colors (see pic), which is widely spread in most public areas. BCA is one of the big banks here.
You can take cash from BCA ATM, if you are holding:
- Visa Plus/Electron
- MasterCard/Cirrus
- Amex card
- Bank of Tokyo card

Bemo/minivan – This public transportation connect different places in town. There are several groups of Bemo – marked with the color of the minivans and a big letter on it (N, Q, S, etc), and each group has different routes.
City bus – there are also many city buses going around.
