Lava View Lodge Good service hotel Bromo Area, Nice view, our staff very friendly, bathroom, and hot shower
Unique Quality: The Best View Mt.Bromo and sunrise or sunset
Directions: From Cemoro Lawang Villages and entrance ticket bromo turn left location in the hotel lava view
lava view lodge is very well located..only hotel with view to the caldera
chalets are nice but in night quite cold
The Cemorolawang approach to Mount Bromo has the advantage that there is accommodation much closer to the volcano. The closest is Lava View Lodge located right on the caldera rim. From the parking one has a clear view of the caldera.
Lava View Lodge at Cemorolawang is less pretentious than Bromo Cottages at Tosari, but it was almost fully booked when we stayed here in October. A restaurant served dinner, land-cruiser tours could be booked at the reception.
Typical rates: low/high/peak season = Jan..Apr/May..Sep/Oct..Dec
Standard double room: Rp 350,000/400,000/450,000
Bungalow double: Rp 400,000/450,000/500,000
Directions: Cemorolawang is 45 km from Probolinggo. Lava View Lodge is at the end of the road through the village.
Worst place I have stayed in Indonesia.
Chose an individual chalet - very expensive. Staff insisted it was high-season despite the place being almost deserted (late Nov 2007). Was told price included evening tea and breakfast. Evening tea turned out to be exactly that - a cup of weak tea. We ate in the restaurant; ordered tofu with mixed vegetable stir-fry, and were presented after long delay with flaccid vegetables only. On enquiry, was then told that tofu was unavailable. At breakfast we were initially denied bottled water until a stern word was exchanged with the manager - given that a bottle of water costs around 0.5% of the nightly rate we were paying, this was penny-pinching in the extreme. Furthermore, we found that bread (and therefore toast) was unavailable, leaving the only available breakfast food as (tepid) fried rice and shoe-leather fried eggs.
During the night an unidentified electrical noise in the back of the chalet rendered sleep almost impossible - only saving grace was having to wake up at 3am anyway to reach dawn viewpoint.
Staff were fairly unhelpful regarding information about walking routes, seeming happy to allow local touts to push themselves in our way at every opportunity.
However, the views over the crater the following day more than made up for the unpleasantness of the accommodation.
We spent two nights in a splendid triple room that had its own verandah, almost on the rim of the huge Tengger Caldera.
Unique Quality: Great view on Tenggger Caldera and Mount Bromo, with another active vulcano, Mount Semeru, beyond. Restaurant with live music ("Country roads, take me home ... Eastern Java")
Facilities = standard.
Staff = friendly
View = great, right in front of Mt Bromo - you can see the sea of sand & the mountain clearly.
Price = quite cheap
Distance to the mountain = close
The service was not so special, actually the people in the hotel wasn't really have willing to serve :-( but we stay in this hotel only for a short time, we arrived at night, and we left early in the morning to see the sunrise.
So it's not a big deal.
The room was clean and made of wood. There's TV and hot water.
Unique Quality: This Hotel has the best view because it's on a cliff and we can see the volcano and desert around it from our window.
The cheapest rooms were 35.000 Rps, and very basic. The shared bathroom was far away, two terraces down and we were too tired to try this at night, the only night we would spend there. ยต
For 80.000 Rps you have half of a splendid bungalow with sheets, towels and a very clean bathroom. Two chairs outside on your own private terrace and lovely trees and flowers in the garden.
Breakfast is included
Very much recommended
