Yoschi's Guest House: A homey place to stay
Situated nearby Ngadisari village, it's a nice and friendly place to stay.
The walls covered by bamboo. And the crew, from receptionist, room service to bellboy, all are 'international' ... fluently English speaking. Cool!

Cemara Indah Hotel: Gunung Bromo laying next to me :)
A nice place to stay, since situated at the lip of Tengger crater.
Echanting views every single minutes, since Mount Bromo with 2 other mountains just in front of me! Open my window early morning >> yes, she's there :)
Also beautiful wooden walls [it's cement bricks, but covered by wooden panel make it more natural].

44 rooms - from family cottage to std double twin and economy.
breakfast (indoenisian or toast butter/jam) included, afternoon tea/coffee
full service restaurant
hot showers - if you can figure out how to use the small 5 L water heater (it is good idea to get a little domo and check this out at the time you go to see your room/get your stuff put in)
basic facility - we stayed in a std double (Rp. 220,000 weekday, rp 248,000 weekend - add 25% more for high season may-aug)
There is no view from inside the hotel (except from the more expensive VIP/Family cottages). You got to walk out about 100 m for a sweeping view - not a problem at all

Tosari - Pasuruan - BROMO: BROMO COTTAGES
Bromo Cottages Hotel is a peaceful and pleasant place to stay, and sets in high level landscaped with beautiful view of the surrounding. There are about 80 Superior Rooms and 20 Cottages, equipped with private bathroom (hot-cold water, electric power is 222 Volt).
Very close to Bromo's crater mountain-place Tosari is great to take a rest. I do prefer to hang around with the Orang Tengger , though Bromo Cottages Hotel bar and restaurant are relaxed, too. There are safety deposit boxes, drug store, traditional massage, mailing, money exchange, room service, facsimile, meeting room ...

Hotel Bromo Permai I: Good value close Mt Bromo: Hotel Bromo Permai
The hotel is a good value, although it's better to pay for bungalows with hot water (about 12$/night) because these rooms are nicer and nights are cold there.
The restaurant serves good and inexpensive food.

Cemara Indah: Where NOT to stay in beautiful Bromo
This hotel was unpleasant and poor value for money, in spite of any nice views you get from the restaurant. You don't need to stay here to enjoy the views, but be warned if you decide to eat here to enjoy the views.
Restaurant meals were miserly and not great cooking. The kitchen could only cope with making one dish at a time, resulting in lengthy waits when there is more than 1 table eating.
Rooms were from 400 thousand Rupiah to 30 thousand Rupiah (US$1 = 10,000 rupiah). We chose the 150 thousand rupiah room with hot water - no fan or aircon (Bromo is quite cold). One awful synthetic, not very warm blanket provided. No soap or toilet paper. The room was in somewhat poor repair with the wash basin looking like it had not been cleaned for a while. We left after 1 night to stay at the well-run and friendly Lava Hostel. Lava Hostel salvaged what otherwise would have been a not-so-good impression of Cemoro Lawang village. Lava Hostel was also cheaper than Cemara Indah.
From the moment we arrived at Cemara Indah Hotel, on a rainy afternoon in May 2006, it was hard sell and more hard sell. First, a young man from the hotel tried to force us to pay him 100 thousand rupiah together with our first night's accommodation for him to be our guide to watch the sunrise.
All day and night, we were offered the hire of jackets, cameras, horses and jeeps by the management and staff of this hotel. After we had hired a jeep ourselves in the village, they kept asking us, "How much did you pay for the jeep?" over and over again. Totally unrelaxing, and also lacking privacy.
Great view from the restaurant, but this is more to do with the beauty of the Tengger Caldera and mountains rather than Cemara Indah Hotel. Other hotels with great views include the Lava View Hotel, a cousin of the Lava Hostel. If you have more money, you can stay at Lava View - for those on a budget, Lava Hostel is fabulous.

Sri Dewi Homestay: Homely at Tosari
When we walked out of Bromo Cottages, we were immediately approached by a couple of locals, who took us to Sri Dewi Home Stay. The rooms were simple but clean, bathroom had squatting toilet only. Price Rp 150,000 including breakfast for two (served after you come back from the land-cruiser tour). We had a pleasant afternoon chatting while we were served free coffee and snacks. The next morning our tour started conveniently in the yard of Sri Dewi.

Penginapan Bulan Ayu: Price-worthy at Tosari
We did not stay here, but had a look around and a chat with the proprietress, mrs Yuli. The rooms are half the price of those at Sri Dewi (Rp 75,000, October 2009), but can compete with them. They even have western toilets and hot water!! However Bulan Ayu does not serve breakfast.

Grand Bromo Hotel: The best hotel on Mt. Bromo
Maybe the equipments and food there are not the best, but the standard is said the best in the area. The landscape is beautiful what you must experience.

Grand Bromo Hotel: The Best Hotel near Mt. Bromo
It locates in deep mountains so the scenery of nature is just amazing there. The combination of abundant green (trees and grass) and colorful flowers brightens my eyes...
The equipments in bathroom there are basic and simple ones which seem luxury in such deep mountains.
The only one bad point is that the hotel is a little far from the Mt. Bromo so in order to view the sunrise on the volcano on time, tourists have to get up very early in the morning.
pretty gardens, swimming pool

Bromo Cottages: The top at Tosari
All accommodation at the Tosari approach to Bromo is at least 5 km from the caldera rim. Of these Bromo Cottages are the most upmarket. From one's rooms one has splendid views, not over the sand sea, but over the outer slopes of the caldera ring. We did not stay here, however, because our request for an off-season discount was turned down with: "No discount for walk-in guests". So we walked out and stayed at one of the many homestays in Tosari.
The "publish price" for a room was Rp 600,000 (October 2009).

Cafe Lava Hostel: Neat
For the price we were able to afford, the rooms in Cafe Lava are better than that of Cemara Indah. The rooms better appointed and the bathroom was cleaner.
:) There was no pool and the view faces the hills at the back part. But the traditional look of the rooms was a good come on. The garden is neat and compact.
If you want a view of the Caldera it is a 5 minute walk away. :)
