Hotel Srabah Semesta Resort: Nice Family Hotel

It seemed like a nice place to stay: Argo Wilis, Sendang village, on the eastern slopes of Wilis mountain. The surroundings are nice indeed, but the accommodation... dirty as hell. The caretaker showed us his best room, we did not dare touch the matrass. His excuse: "still waiting for capital for renovation".
So we hurried down the mountain again, because night was falling. Asking around we were directed to Hotel Srabah, which turned out to be fine.

As it was Lebaran week, only deluxe rooms and suites were still vacant at high rate. Yet our deluxe room was good value for money. An attractively furnished two-under-one-roof room with parking next to the entrance. New, clean bedsheets. A huge pool for an early morning dip.

Although the hotel was almost fully booked, we were the only guests in the restaurant, "open 24 of 24 hours". Yet our choice of the extensive menu turned out to be satisfactory, if only just so, and not expensive. But do not take the continental breakfast, stick to the Indonesian menu.

The rates are (all + 10% and excl. breakfast):
Superior: Rp 125,000 (low) to Rp 150,000 (high)
Deluxe: Rp 175,000 (low) to Rp 210,000 (high)
Family Suite: Rp 350,000 (low) to Rp 420,000 (high)
President Suite: Rp 525,000 (low) to Rp 630,000 (high)

The 'Resort' in the name refers to the adjacent recreation grounds, including an olympic-sized swimming pool with out-of-use diving tower. The water was clean and there is also a children's pool.
The owner was thinking big when he had the grounds built, but must have miscalculated its economics. There is an open-air theatre, a playground, a boating pond, all in need of some maintenance. But still usable, next day after our visit there was to be a music festival in the theatre.
A good place to stay when you travel with children.

Villa Wonorejo: Best view in town

Want a cool place to relax?
High on a hilltop, overlooking Wonorejo dam and lake, the government-owned company 'Jasa Tirta I' has built a small number of cottages or villa's. They are part of a new, vast recreational area situated north of the dam. The area is not very crowded, on weekdays mostly empty.

Make your reservation at the number below or with the manager: mr. Djaelani, A.Md, mobile phone +62.81.216 782 40.

The cottages are new and clean, come with telephone, TV, refrigerator and hot water, and all have a view on the lake. They are very reasonably priced from Rp 150,000 for a double to Rp 220,000 for a cottage with separate sitting room and bedroom (that will accommodate six Indonesians with additional mattresses on the floor). These prices are for weekdays and include tax, but no breakfast. On weekends and holidays the rates are Rp 185,000 to Rp 280,000.

A restaurant is will soon open. A pool is adjacent, may be rather crowded on weekends. But although it is discouraged, you may want to take a swim in the lake down below. For good swimmers only and keep your distance from the dam.
