Kristal Hotel: Best in Town
Kristal Hotel is one of the landmark establishments in Kupang. It has a long reputation of being the best hotel in town. It has a newly constructed wing with new rooms too.
There is a large pool, with all rooms having waterfront views. The lobby and building are a bit dated but adequate enough. The rooms are comfortable and clean. You may have to call the front desk and ask for towels since it is common that they forget them, but don't worry, they are free.
Room prices start at 400,000 IDR
Unique Quality: The rooms have A/C, satellite TV with a few English channels. There is a large pool and view of the ocean. However if you want to go to the beach, you must walk out of the fence compound.
There is internet available with the purchase of pre-paid password cards.
There is a restaurant that is adequate enough, but prices are a bit inflated.
Breakfast is included in the room from 5am to 10am.

Kaki Ayam Homestay: Traditional style accommodation
The only accommodation at Tablolong beach: Kaki Ayam Homestay. We discovered it at the end of our Timor trip and decided to relax here for a day and a half. It proved worth while to stay longer at the beach, explore the surroundings and snorkel at our leasure.
The accommodation consists of three lopo's, a kind of gazebo built in traditional style. Below is a bamboo floor to sit and relax, up a bamboo ladder is a 'bedroom' under the thatched roof. However, we found the bedroom too hot and took the mattress down to sleep in the open air.
The site is large enough, but the soil rocky and dry. Efforts have been made to plant trees for shade and flowers. At the end of the rainy season the grounds looked attractive enough.
Water is scarce here, and has to be bought per tank wagon. So you are requested to use it sparingly and flush the toilet with sea water. The bathroom unit stands at some distance of the lopo's.
The homestay provides food, according to the menu Nasi goreng, Bami goreng, and Ikan bakar (roasted fish) for quite reasonable prices. We brought some meat and vegetables of our own for variation, which were prepared in the kitchen (not allowed to use the kitchen ourselves). Bring drinking water, you may need a lot of it, but the homestay also provides chilled drinks like Sprite and Beer at the usual prices (Rp 25,000 for a big bottle of beer).
We were told that the owner of the homestay is a Canadian, married to a Timorese. His her sister Dicky manages the homestay, but beware: she tried to charge us more than the published prices. Also ask to sign the guestbook, or she may not report having had guests to the owners.
Rates: One or two persons in a lopo: Rp 100,000, three or four in a lopo: Rp 200,000, five or six: Rp 300,000. All prices including nasi goreng or bami goreng for breakfast.

Maya Beach Hotel: Preferred location
We stayed here on our return from Soe. At Jalan Sumatera near the beach are four hotels in a row. It is a convenient location: there are two banks with ATM, Lavalon bar is at walking distance, and so are the pasar malam for a cheap evening meal and an internet cafe.
We chose the Maya because it was recommended by Indonesian colleagues. We first took a sea view room, but moved to a back room because of a disturbing loud noise from the drain pipes in the middle of the night. The breakfast – chocolate toasted bread with an egg – was monotonous, but the service was ok.
Incidentally while we were there the NTT Tourist Department held a conference at the Maya Beach.
Rates: Rp 200,000 beach view, Rp 175,000 back room.

Sasando Hotel: Second best in Kupang
At our arrival we had our taxi driver make the round of the hotels, and we settled for Sasando. The Kristal Hotel (Rp 800,000 ++) was above our budget and did not want to give a discount. The Sasando Hotel (Rp 600,000 ++) gave us a room for Rp 400,000 all in. That was good value for money including buffet breakfast, the view and the pool.
Only drawback of the Sasando, it is rather far from the town centre.
By the way, a sasando is a traditional string instrument.
Unique Quality: Magnificent view of Kupang bay.
Clean pool.

Lavalon B&B: Backpackers choice
Backpackers seek out Lavalon B&B at Jalan Sumatra I. Only Rp 40,000 a night including breakfast and the use of the kitchen if you want to cook your own meals. Here, and at the Lavalon bar across the road, is the place to meet fellow travellers.
The owner, Ony Meda, doubles as a guide – we went with him to Pulau Semau and on a round trip to Tablolong Beach.
Ony Meda cooperates with Edwin Lerrick of the Lavalon bar, their tourist information is free and also available at the website: www.lavalontourist.info

kupang beach hotel: on the waterfront
this is a nice place to stay, as i write the same under my oesau page. next to a church and on waterfront of a beach that stretch along 3 km. but the problem is ... electricity cable is hanging in here and there on the street, so a bit iritating my views in the morning!
Unique Quality: 3 storey building that restored from an old building. almost all of the rooms are overlooking to the sea. colourful bathroom that represent the vibrant of timorese people :)
and there's additional: an extra [small] bed next to your main bed, no matter you ask or not! and as a conclusion: spotlessly clean room. thanks for nice hospitality from the manager [mr domingus] to the driver [my funny friend rendy 'ramayana' from rote].

Sasando Hotel: #2 Hotel in Kupang
Sasando Hotel is located not too far from Kristal hotel, only it is up to hill. With almost the same seaview from kristal hotel. Only the staff are not really friendly, and less smile :-(
Rooms are also with AC, TV, bathup, western toilet and hot/cold shower.
Swimming pool? Yes! And good sunset from my room!

Kristal Hotel: #1 Hotel in Kupang
Kristal Hotel should be the Best hotel in town and the most expensive 8-9 years ago!! Now it's just like any other stars hotels, only It is located just on the beach BUT you can not go direct to the beach because it has fence around. Beautiful sunset from room, coffee shop/restaurant, swimming pool.
Rooms are with AC, hot/cold shower, bathup, western toilet and TV, all rooms with seaview! Too bad.. sometimes they forgot to put towels in the room, because of less guesses around?
