Lorenso's, Bunaken Island: Great accommodation for perfect snorkelling

by Daihappydai

Lorenso's on Bunaken Island is a fantastic, peaceful bungalow style accommdoation for those on a budget and not wanting to pay the high prices of the dive centres. Lorenso's is on the east of the island, and while most of the beaches on this side are covered in mangroves, it is definitely the cleaner side of the island. Lorenso has carved a pathway through the mangroves for easy access to a tremendous coral reef teeming with fish. Meals are included in the price - a very healthy diet of delicious fresh fish and vegetables. Tea and coffee are available all day. Lorenso is a great story teller with many stories to tell about the history of the island including the ghosts. Lorenso boasts that all the accommodation, the library and dining area are built from materials produced on the island or washed up from the sea. With advance notice, Lorenso will pick you up from Manado at no cost if you stay in one of his bungalows.

A perfect place to stay for chilling out with a book or snorkelling the reef, with easy access to dive places.

Tarsius Homestay, Batuputih (Tangkoko Reserve): Simple homestay in quiet village

by Daihappydai

The homestays in Batuputih are all quite simple affairs. Tarsius Homestay has basic clean rooms with attached bathrooms and very friendly hosts. Full board is provided and while the meals are mostly fish and rice with vegetables, you won't go hungry on the quantities provided. Ibu also bakes some delicious biscuits which you can snack on. Sitting on the front porch you are sure to be approached by a guide willing to take you into Tangkoko reserve. It was mango season when I stayed and they were literally falling from the trees. Fun to watch as any that fall inside the fence of a house belong to the house, but any that fall on the road are for the lucky one who finds them. This certainly delighted some of the workers heading into the fields in the early morning - 'woops' of excitement finding an extra snack for lunch. Like many other places in Indonesia, the children in Batuputih are very friendly and keen to practice their English.

Clean, basic accommodation right opposite the entrance to Tangkoko reserve. A friendly place to stay for a couple of nights while experiencing the thrill of spotting tarsiers.

Happy Flower Homestay: Beautiful setting and terrific hosts in Tomohon

by Daihappydai

Happy Flower Homestay is a small, friendly homestay just 10 to 15 minutes walk from the town of Tomohon. The rooms are well kept and the garden is 'alive' with butterflies drifitng amidst some beautiful flowers. The owners of the homestay are extremely friendly and happy to offer advice about places to visit. Ootje is a 'font' of knowledge and can give helpful hints about many places throughout Sulawesi - he seems to know everyone. Delicious meals can be had in the small restaurant or eaten in town. Breakfast is provided, coffee is available on request at all times.

The views across the gardens towards Gunung Lokon are amazing. While the facilities are basic, it is well worth the stay for a quiet, friendly, central place to tour around the Tomohon area.

Highland Resort: Relaxation is the Word!

by lmscott

This nice little resort is located in the Minahasa Highlands of North Sulawesi Province. It is set just up a hill from the small town of Kinilow and is within an hour's drive to the Manado Airport. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. Bathroom has hot and cold running water.

Breakfast is included in the price of the room and can be delivered to your room in the morning if you'd like. You can order other things from the onsite restaurant 24 hours a day. However, if you want a very wide variety of things, you won't find it. Choose from the traditional Indonesian foods and you'll be more satisfied.

Prices are not per person, but per room. The room I had was $20 US per night, including breakfast.

The Alam Spa is located on the premises. While there I had a traditional rice scrub. It was enjoyable and calming. There are traditional Balinese massages, aromatherapy massages, and more to choose from. The prices are very reasonable.

Rooms have small refrigerator with items to purchase (drinks, snacks). There is also a small color satellite television. There are perhaps 10 channels to choose from, but it's nice to have.

Tasik Ria Resort: Sea side resort

by indonesiana

Tasik Ria Resort, with 34 rooms is located on Tanawangko Bay, on the north west coast of Manado, only 20 kilometers from Bunaken National Park. The resort is 33-kilometers (60 minutes) from Sam Ratulangi International Airport where you will be greeted by hotel staff and transported by air-conditioned bus to the resort.

Away from the hustle & bustle of the city, Tasik Ria Resort has all of the conveniences that you would expect from an international standard resort. Whether you plan to travel as an individual, couple, family, or a dive group, we believe that our on-site Dive Operation, 2 pools (one isolated children's pool), exercise room, lending library, Restaurant, Sunset Jetty Bar, Pool Bar, and Friendly Staff will make your vacation, a most memorable one.

SEAVIEW COTTAGES:
Tasik Ria's 14 Seaview Cottages are strategically scattered along the beach. Facilities include: private bath/shower with hot & cold water, mini fridge, safe deposit box, coffee & tea, satellite TV, IDD telephone, room service and individually controlled air-conditioning.

POOL VIEW ROOMS:
Are located in two-story buildings (total of 5 buildings, each with 4 rooms; 2 below and 2 above) surrounding free-form lagoon pool. It is no doubt the nicest pool in Manado. Guests may enjoy the pool scenery and landscape from the comfort of their balconies. All facilities are identical to the Seaview Cottages.

DINING: Bunaken Restaurant offers casual all day dining featuring Indonesian and European Cuisine. Weather permitting, BBQ parties will be held on the beach. Sunset Jetty Bar that overlooks the Manado Tua Island offers a panoramic sunset view, a perfect place to relax at the end of the day. The Pool Bar serves tropical drinks and snacks all day long.

ECO DIVERS DIVING CENTRE: Is a fully equipped PADI Gold Palm Center. When you dive Manado with us, your comfort is assured. A maximum guest-to-guide ratio of 5-1 guarantees close attention and quality service. Our European Instructors and guides who are all certified PADI Dive Masters or Instructors will show you the beauty of Bunaken National Park as well as guide you on optional trips to Banka Island & Lembeh Strait. Diving takes place from our purpose built dive boats "Aquatica" & "Nautica" equipped with many comfort features, bathroom, covered salon, sundeck, seated dive deck and fresh water showers. You can expect the highest international standard from the equipment & staff as well as the boats, when diving with Eco Divers Manado at Tasik Ria Resort.
