for those who wants to chill out
if your aim is to find a laid back and relaxing place, santika resort and spa is the answer. but speaking about distance to downtown, it's bloody miles away!
Unique Quality: nice bungalow divided into two rooms per unit and you can have all. from lounge room, bedroom, small veranda and your own barbecue corner. or, fancy to have massage companied by sea breeze? you can get the service directly in front of your veranda.
another great facility about the hotel is the closest distance to have snorkeling or diving to bunaken and siladen islands. so you don't need to take accommodation in these islands.

Lousy hotel
Stayed for 4 nights at Santika Hotel back in 2002.
Nice hotel, excellent facilities, pricey so-so quality food, and lousy hotel security.
My camera was stolen from my room and suspected one of the room cleaners must had snitched it. I did reported this matter to the hotel management but apparently no action was taken.
On another note, there is a small shop (warung) about 100 meters right in front of the hotel, where you can buy your groceries including beer at the local price.

Lovely hotel in Manado
The Hotel Santika is lovely. It has beautiful grounds, a great pool and beautiful views. The only thing it doesn't have is a beach as it is set in the mangroves north of Manado. We chose it because it was the closest hotel to the diving in Bunaken Marine Park and were very then pleasantly surprised by how nice it was. Dive sites were all within a 10-20 minute boat ride and we usually came back to the hotel for surface intervals. We stayed in one of the cottages and they had great views across the strait and beautiful sunsets. Diving was spectacular and the on-site dive op - Thalassa Divers was great. They were professional, flexible and safety conscious. I highly recommend both the Santika and Thalassa Divers.

Beachfront Hotel?
I was expecting a beachfront resort as I was assured of it when booking was made. To me, beachfront = beach in front of resort. Alas, had a rude shock when sand couldn't be found. Totally disappointed.
If you can live without sand, it is quite a comfortable place. Clean rooms, a pub next to coffee house with 2 pool tables, playground, pool, dive shop, gym, etc.
This hotel is a weekend retreat for the Indonesians. When I was there, there were locals holding having their weddings and conferences.
Unique Quality: The dining area offers the view in the picture. It makes breakfast, lunch and dinner very enjoyable.

This Place Rivals Hawaii
It was gorgeous. You can see the Tua Manado volcano in the sea from your room. The natives who take care of you all have a smile on their face.
Unique Quality: A great pool, and the some of the best diving in the world.

Perfect hotel to stay and relax
Hotel with rooms and cottages. Restaurant is perfect where they serve local and international food.
The garden is like an oase and even the manager is big fun.
Unique Quality: The pool is small, but well kept and clean.
Nice bar, with pooltable and live music
