I stayed here for one night due to my bestfriend wedding and took the most standard room which is superior. It has two single beds, a 24 inchi lcd teve attached to the wall, bath amenities set, an ensuite with good shower, no view unfortunately, tea and coffee facility, safety box, refrigerator and of course pairs of sleepers for you to walk around the room.
The breakfast is standard but tastes pretty good. They have egg stations which is for me a plus point. If you don't like the breakfast buffet just walk few meters and lots of vendors open to serve you. Free internet connections. The taxi services is bit suck, so you would like to take a walk a bit far from the hotel and instead of getting a taxi, grab the bentor (becak motor), bargain hard and head over to place you like to visit while enjoying the hot air of medan and their pollution :D
The hotel is compact. It doesn't offer you 5star facilities, but it fulfills all your basic needs, they have small gym, good spa services (though it is quite pricey), pristine room with ample of rooms for storage, good beds, 24 hours grocery store and what i like the most only a door step from selat panjang street, where dozens of famous chinese food vendors are lining up to entertain foodlovers like me.
Though the hotel located quite out from Medan city, but you can assured you have quiet and good rest at night. The hotel staffs are very friendly and helpful.. Transportation, taxi or tour, they will arrange for you. The rooms are clean with open concept shower and toilet.
Request for shuttle service when you book online. Breakfast, they served very nice indonesian food which I enjoyed very much..
No tv - could not flush the toilet - Just don't expect too much! There was free wifi and you could watch tv at the lobby.
I could just sit at the balcony (Room 15) the whole day to enjoy the view. The view from the lobby was sensational. It was where you could have your bfast as well.
It is best you confirm the room rates before you arrive. Advertised room rates on their webpage was rp40,000, in their facebook, in a recent wall posting by them, the rate was rp90,000. But when we arrived, we were told that a room with cold shower was rp200,000. with hot shower, rp250,000. hot shower is a must-the water there is too cold, for me anyway. they have a batak house with 2 single mattresses and attached bathroom (cold water) for only rp100,000. Spaghetti was rp30,000. Rice with sweet sour chicken was rp30,000. Vegetable soup rp15,000. didn't quite like the spaghetti but the vegetable soup was not too bad. plain rice is rp5,000. juices are around rp8,000. if you want a reasonably clean place in a beautiful setting at one of the cleanest lake side on the island, this is the place to be. The owner, a local Batak man who speaks English, lives here with his family, and is assisted by a cook and 2 other workers.
I would recommend packing snacks and fruits. Samosir Island is really small. there are no supermarkets, only small shops. I was glad I brought along a whole pack of Yakult, oranges and apples, snacks, 3 in 1 milo and nescafe. The local Avocado juice was not too bad though.
motorbike rental was rp80,000 per day. there is no half day rate.
Great view & clean lake side, clear with lots of fish. bring your fishing and snorkeling gear, and swim wear.
Room & bathroom were clean, white towels were white and plush enough. Had a window that could be opened and a split air cond. Only complaint was the room had ants. Cost of room, rp275,000
Breakfast was too simple. Just fried rice, fried koay teow, a sweet soup dessert, bread, coffee and tea.
It is a short 5 minute walk away from Perisai Plaza-plaza with lots of small shops selling mainly clothing. Carrefour is nearby, approximately half an hour's slow walk away, I think. We took a cab there and a becak back. the becak fare was rp15,000-the road in front of Alpha Inn is one way so the becak had to make a big round.
The room was rp270,000 per night. the location is not so ideal for shopping. the nearest mall is Thamrin plaza (Matahari is there). Becak ride back to the hotel was rp10,000. if not mistaken, it was a slow 20 minute walk from the hotel. the bed was nice. but I didn't like the centralised air conditioning system. cigarette smoke from other rooms seemed to fill my room. My room had a glass window-it is actually just a big piece of glass, not a proper window with latch and frame. the bathroom could have been cleaner. the shower had a non tiled wall that was mildewed-quite yucky. the walls and floor and the tap-everything in the shower, needed cleaning. the white towels were grayish. they provide imitation crocs bathroom sandals.
the local chinese tourists seem to favor this hotel.
there is wifi in the dining area.
breakfast was quite good for a hotel of this standard. 2 star I think. nasi lemak, fried bee hoon, a sweet local dessert soup, 2 local kuihs, bread, fresh and steam milk, watermelon, banana, watermelon juice .
The hotel provides free transfer to and from Polonia airport, and transfer between Citiinn Sun Yat Sen and Citiinn Palang Merah. Ciitiinn Palang Merah is 20 minutes walk away from Sun Plaza. the rooms are smaller and older than the rooms at Citiinn Sun Yat Sen, and their "windows" face the hallway.
Hotel Carolina is a nice place set in a lush tropical garden. Good access to the lake for swimming with a pontoon to relax. The Hotel can organise trips, rents out motorbikes, has an internet parlour and even offers free WiFi, though the speed can be very slow. Ask the ferry boat from Parapat to drop you at the hotel jetty.
A "traditional Batak house" look-alike bungalow with big enough room, double or queen size bed, warm shower (but no towel), restaurant for meals (no free breakfast). They have the best angle to enjoy the amazing view of Toba Lake
The hotel located in the middle of the town near ramayana supermarket and cab always standby to sent you anywhere you want .
Very cLEAN ROOM WITH FREE wifi AT LOBBY ,NO achohol allowed
3 nights there, nice place to stay...breakfast was good and cloesby shopping areas......good place to stay
Those who want to find a budget hotel. This is the one which is the best. But for cold country people be prepare for the hot stay due to there is no fan and aircond supply.
People can swin in the TOBA lake just in front of this hotel. Horas.....
2nd Stay...Stayed there 2 nights this time and the hospitality was great, only draw back is if you like to get back late at night the door will be locked.
Located just 5 minutes drive or 15 minutes walk from Polonia Airport at Medan's Diplomatic Enclave this guest house is not well known even among the locals, most occupents are were Dutch back packers, Group Travellers from Europe. Car Parking is available.
Owned by a Nice Indo Dutch Lady Miss. Agnes the rooms are comfortable, some are huge, with 3 to 5 beds and attached bath, I paid 80,000 Idonesian Rupiyah (less then US$9.00) Per Night including breakfast Airconditioned Room, Tea or Coffee is available all the time
Access is easy if weather is not hot or rain can walk or get Becak (Tricycle) they are plenty. KFC is just opposit and other food oultlet is also nearby.
Near to everywhere, close to airport, nice hotel included breakfast, and also with good restaurant, Family restaurant.
Guesthouse JJ is actually a private house whose many rooms are rented to backpackers. because its owner Mr Stanley, outspoken and friendly, does not live with his wife anymore. Rooms are spacious and lunch, breakfast and dinner are prepared for backpackers. One night stay costs Rp65,000 (about S$12) and it is only 5 minutes ride from and to Polonia International Airport, Medan.
Free toiletries and towel for in-guesthouse use. Return after use. Spacious rooms and spacious toilets. Outstanding hospitality.
We stayed in Medan two days, because we still had to get boattickets for going back to Penang, Malaysia. We found this hotel and had room with bathroom attached. Everything was so cheap in Indonesia, this hotel too. The room cost us 30,000 Rupiah per night (about $3).
