Beautiful Cake Deco
For those bakers out there, don't miss the opportunity to visit local bakery. The cake decoration displayed was wonderful. wanted to take pictures but was not allowed. may be they are afraid of me stealing their design.

Is it very expensive to get transport in parapat and brastagi? Any bus to travel around like sipiso piso waterfall and.....
In Parapat, the public transport was cheap, a mini van with regular route, would charge you three or five thousand rupiahs from one point to one destination nearby.
If you want to go to samosir island just head on to PASAR TIGA RAJA, a local market where you could find a boat use by local peoples from Parapat to samosir vise verse, its only ten thousand rupiah one way, and they drop you at carolina port or silintong port. see http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/782e3/126f5d/
In samosir island you could getting around by hire a bycicle or motorcycle please see http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/782e3/126f5d/9/.
Another option is from Ajibata ferry port at Parapat to Tomok port at samosir island.

There is a Tourist Information Office at the entrance of Kesawan Square with a prominent sign. It is a few houses away from Tjong A Fie Mansion. I took a quick look, not as well stocked as I would have expected.
There was one staff helping an Indonesian tourist. So I did not hang around.
So better to get your free city map and information from the concierge at your hotel. Most of the becak and taxi drivers seemed familiar with the major sights and shopping malls shown on the map.
We were sitting around waiting for our bowls of bamie at the Hock Sing shop, and then all of a sudden a man came around our table, carrying lots of imported magazines and he started displaying it in front of us. we just stared blank at the magazines, dared not touch them, and look at the poor bloke still carrying loads of other magazines. For me, there was fashion magazines - becos I am a gal, and for our client, who has smart with Rolexes etc, he had the Fortune Magazine laid out!!!
The man then just left us with all the magazines, and went on to the next table with the same act!!! After that he came back to our table and collected all our magazines except those that were selected by our client...sure enough the Fortune magazine was sold - he seemed to know what you want to read - hehehe!!!
when ordering food, do not chose the "special paket" unless you can stand a thick layer of red chilis on top of your dish. Better clarify if it is "pedas" (spicy) or not. you may try to say "aku ungga mau pedas" (I don't like spicy ..) plus some pointing skills to the menu heheheh
At Merdeka Square, I was impressed by the number of locals mainly Indonesian Chinese, doing their jogging or walking.
It reminded me of the large number of local Vietnamese strolling around Hoan Kem Lake in Hanoi.
Along the side, there are a variety of outdoor exercise stretching and pushing equipment which are popularized in parks in towns in China.
