Misool Eco Resort: Perfect and Private

by Mara_2

The resort was built by its owners and a few local people with their own hands! Not a tree has been fallen - all the wooden parts have been built with drift or burried wood! I know that's incredible, but I was following their log about the building and it's all true! You can see it on their web-site blog.
The resort has 10 ower-water bungalows built along a beautiful lagoon full of fishes and baby black-tipped sharks! 8 of them are for two persons occupancy and the other 2 are for four persons stay.
All the bungalows are really confortable and beautifully furnished. They have individually controlled air-conditioning, two fans if your don't like the air-conditioning, private bathroom with open air shower, private shaded veranda with cuiscioned chaise longues, built-in hammock suspended above the water and a kind of spacious cushioned bad for a nap and private stairs for climbing down in the lagoon!
Inside, there's a big four poster bed with moskito nettings all arround from which you can have a great look at the lagoon through three double glass doors! There are also two wardrobes and a desk.
There's a very scenic stilted walkways that allow you to reach every part of the resort.
The restaurant weel appointed in the middle of the resport and is open air and the meals are buffet-style. The food is very, very good: a mix between international and local cuisine.
The diving center is very appointed: very near the pier. There is an area with indiviual desks for the equipment, a wet area for rinsing the equiment, a spacious launging room and a big veranda all around.

Misool eco Resort is named "eco" for a very good reason. Beside the fact that is built of drift, burried or naturally fallen wood, they actively work on improving environmental responsibility. They established a 1200 km2 no-take-zone!!! So all the marine life in that area is safe and protected! Also, they safeguard and improve the life of the local comunity: they offer them favourable working conditions, health benefits, job training, and English lessons (personally witnessed!).
At the entrance of every cottage there's a big tank with beautiful gardens, plants and flowers. We thought that is was for aestethic reasons, but we discovered that these tanks function as water-depurators!!

MSY Seahorse: Sailing dream

by Mara_2

There are not enough words to describe our experience onboard!
Starting with the ship itself, the crew, the organization, the divings... everything was more than perfect!
The ship is 33 meters long and has 5 standard cabins on the fist deck, two deluxe on the second and a master-suite on the third. Our was one of the deluxe. Really confortable: a king-size bed, beathroom, TV and DVD (we never used them... who would want to stay and watch TV when the paradise is there outside??!!), individually controlled air-conditioning, spacious desk and a lot of space for all the clothing and various equipment and staff!
The food on board was beyond excellent: the cook prepared the most delicious meals that, I'm sure, were enjoyed by everyone!
What to say about the diving? It was perfectly organized! Excellently managed!!! We saw so many beatiful things that I'm at a loss to describe everything!!!
The crew in general was very friendly and available to help any way they could!
The captain sailed the ship in such a great way that every night, when the most of the sailing took place, we went to spleep with the sea gently rocking us!

During the cruise 4 dives a day are included in the price (if you book as a diver).
On board there's a very good in-door area available for the guests to store their photographic equipment and underwater cases - it is the dryest area on board. There one can re-charge the batteries, change the memory cards, grease the cases, etc in all safety! Great service!

-: Honais

by EdVallance

These are the traditional houses of the highlanders. During a trek you can stay with local people in their honai if you give them some food or about 10,000 rupiah per night. Expect cockroaches, spiders, mice and everything though.

Hotel Syriah Riyal: Wamena's chepest hotel

by EdVallance

The cheapest place to stay in Wamena. 100,000 per night. Go out of the airport, turn left, walk for a couple of hundred meters and its on your right. If you want cheaper you can pay locals in nearby villages about 50,000 to stay in honais (huts).

Not to clean, no running water, seedy clientele, but cheap and a good laugh if you talk to some of the Indonesians and Papuan guides who hang around.
