 | Pulau Batam Reviews | Tips 41 - 50 of 68 | | This hotel is better than any 3 star hotels in Singapore. Either comparison on prices, service, room, facilities, food etc. I can consider this hotel same with 4 star hotels in Singapore. iused to stay in 3 different hotels in Batam, but this is the best. FOr one night, it can cost you only SD 80 incl bfast, but because we stay for a long time, we got a better deal.... SD69 incl. bfast and laundry. They have swimming pool on top, and godd security system. Behind this hotel, there are one disco and its alway full with local teenager. Underground of this hotel, there are big pool centre for everybody. Accidentally chanced upon this little place! I was desperately needing and looking for a short getaway from work before Christmas and heard about this "Kelong" (House on Stilts in the sea) from a friend who just came back from her 2D1N trip. It's a house built on stilts above the sea, located just off a tiny island, Pulau Tunjuk at the Riau Islands, sheltered from the north-east monsoon. Gathering my cousins and friends from the UK, we set off from Singapore Habourfront, arrived at Batam Centre and being transported to The Water Lodge. Total journey took less than 2hrs, and the chartered boat ride was very enjoyable.
Ferry tickets, land transfer and all meals have already been included in the package. And it was a bliss to sleep in the room, listening to the waves crashing gently on the stilts below, and wakening up to watch the sunrise with a good strong Indonesian black coffee. My cousins snorkelled and "floated" during high tides, my British friends read their books while I enjoyed my traditional massage. The Water Lodge boasted of its back-to-basics laidback getaway for any city-people like us. There's no flushing toilet, no water heater and no showerhead. There are two pails in the bathroom, one for showering and the other for flushing use. The local fisherman has to row his "sampan" (small wooden boat) to the neighboring island to collect the spring water to store in the water container. The generator will be switched off late at night, so there'll be no lights until dawn breaks. During our stay, the tide went so low that we walked from the lodge to the nearest island, and roamed about, visiting the local natives' houses and watched them pick "gonggong" & "lala" (shell-fish) from the dried sea bed, preparing for their dinner or to sell them to restaurants from Batam mainland! Every evening, after our scrumptous seafood dinner, we would all sit at the deck, and watched the Sun set, enjoying the cool non-stop northeast winds! We were all very well-fed and well-rested. It was absolutely fantastic just to be away from noisy mobile phones, faxes, emails and datelines!! Just 2 hours away from Singapore, and we found the lives so different!

The Turi Beach is one of the best hotel resorts in Batam. I would rate it 3 star. The rooms are clean but somewhat dimly lit. The swimming pool is great. Leave a Comment Theme: HotelPrice: US$40-80 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: Nongsa

Stayed in this resort twice and the newly renovated rooms are slightly better than before. Clean, decent, quiet rooms and close to nature. A good option if you are looking for cheap and relaxing short getaway.
The 5th Dimension Spa is also good and value for money. I spend SGD 92 for a 3hr spa package which consists of full body scrub, steam bath, full body massage, facial, herbal bath and after spa drink. We booked this hotel on a Last Minute Website and only paid 130 per pax for a night including Ferry Tickets from/to Singapore. As we arrived at Batam we enjoyed an express immigration where they take away your passport and collect 10 USD for the visa on arrival. If you don't have USD, you are supposed to pay 20 SGD! What a nice exchange rate. The best thing about this Express Immigration Service? You don't see your passport again until you board the ferry back to Singapore. Kinda scary. Batam View Beach Resort is a dissapointment from the beginning to the end. The pool is very small, there are just a few seats and tables, no pool bar, no towels (in laundry...), beach bar was closed, no towel service at the beach, bad food, breakfast buffet was small and mainly empty and the staff was not really helpful. The official rates are (Weekday/Weekend): Superior Room 130/170, Deluxe Room 150/180, Suite Room 190/230, Executive Room 250/290, Villa with 1 Bedroom 290/320, Villa with 2 Bedrooms 380/420. I haven't seen the villas from inside, but they look quite lovely.
Qualities? Batam View Beach Resort is below average in every sense. Batam View has a personal touch in everything. The staff are friendly and talented in many things, the hotel is beautifully maintained for your comfort and the beach has glorious white sand!
I loved the Kelong Restaurant best of all for it's beautiful architecture. Though simple, I found it a dining pleasure to be among the waves and yet safe from it. Leave a Comment Theme: HotelAddress: Batam View ResortDirections: Just ask the taxi driver!

16 years in between visits but thought I'll go back and check out how the place of my first ever overseas visit had changed. Between 45-60 minutes away from Singapore by ferries from Harbourfront, the resorts in Pulau Batam are decidingly more economical than those in neighbouring Pulau Bintan. Rewarded myself with a seaside villa stay via an Indofalcon F&E package which includes 1N stay, breakfast, ferry tickets and hotel transfers (S$140 per pax circa Apr 09). The villas are located slightly way off the main facilities but was rewarded with serenity. The villas were built right at the edge of the shores and so the villas were serenaded by the sounds of wave breaking. The 1-Bedroom Villa came equipped with a DVD player, TV with satelite channels, a fully equipped kitchen and a bathroom with a bath tub with a window that faced the open seas. Very comfortable, very resort. Couldn't complain. Service of the staff was excellent and the in-house spa had excellent facilities. There was an intriguing little herb and spice garden next to the rather rundown basketball and tennis courts. The main pool was a little small and had a strange steep gradient which descended into 3m deep at the other end. (There was a shallow baby pool) My only major complaint was the food quality. Did not try the in-house seafood restaurant but settled for 2 meals at the cafe, along with the breakfast. The local fare was cooked alright but the western choices were sub-parred....with my lamb shank overly cooked till tough. The breakfast selection was sub-par too....with limpy waffles and cold fried eggs.
The Villas exclusive location and serenity is a great plus point for folks wanting to have a short R&R getaway with massages and scrubs thrown in. Leave a Comment
