New, decent, clean and convenient

This is a popular business hotel downtown Nagoya (the main town in Batam Island) which over the weekend gets crowded with tourists - mainly from Singapore - flocking into town for shopping and eating.

The hotel falls a little short on its ambition of international 4-star hotel but in the whole is decent and convenient. Add that other hotels around don't look any better, actually worse, therefore my conclusion is this is just the standard of the island for the time being.

Location is a big plus, a block away from Nagoya Hill Mall, the hottest hangout place in the Island at time of writing, and few more minutes away from downtown area and the jetty. Easy to get to/leave from as well as easy to get around.

My room was ok, in order and clean, but it looked cheap both in materials and craftsmanship for the grade. Internet connection in the room was available via cable but no via wireless.

Service was friendly and through the concierge you can get metered taxis avoiding the hassle of having to negotiate the silly rates you are quoted if you look like a foreigner. Breakfast was messy due to the crowd, honestly a little disappointing. The vocal-pianist duo in the lounge at second floor is good.

All in all, this hotel is below its grade by international standard but new, decent, clean and convenient. Not an exciting place but honestly the best-looking of the hotels I have seen getting around Nagoya.

3-star hotel but 4-star service

by hannesa about Royal Hotel - Batam

Label as a 3-star hotel, our visit to the hotel was well taken care of. From the ferry terminal, we were greeted by the hotel representative and have no problem looking for the driver. We were then chauffered to the hotel and had a welcome drink while our rooms were being taken care of.

The hotel has all the facilities we need. An indoor jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, fitness centre and a swimming pool all on the same floor.

We went shopping hereby as the hotel is located in the town area itself. At night we karaoke and had a wonderful time. Just what we need to get away.

The next day, we had our breakfast and a late check out. We futher explore the island as the agent had arranged for a one-day tour. The hotel has all the facilities under one roof.

Cheap Spa treats

by Phileas

Hi people,

I need some recommendations for cheap spa treats. Am writing an article on cheap spa treats in Batam, Tanjung Pinang and Bintan. Please feel free to drop me recommendations for spa treatments. Will be most helpful if you could provide the name of the place, the address and telephone number (and email address) if you have it... No hotels please, unless it's really cheap, good and offer wide variety of treatments - like scrub, body masks, facials, massages and hair treatments etc. Must be cheaper than S'pore.. Hope it's not too much trouble. Thank you for your help.. Thankyouthankyouthankyou

Re: Cheap Spa treats

Wow... I was just in here to ask the EXACT SAME question, but mine's for a "pamper trip" that me and some gerlfrens are planning.. Was just at bintan, went to the Asmara spa, It was heavenly! Actually that's what sparked-off this trip. But, the Asmara was a lil too commercialised and considering we're looking for something more of a spa by itself and not one riding-off a hotel(Batam, Tanjung Pinang and Bintan.).
Would Love and appreciate some help!

I do arrange short rejuvenating tour to Tanjung Pinang for cheap spa treats. It costs S$90 per pax for a 2 day 1 nite including the following,

Hotel stay, transfer, cream bath and 1 hour massage, market tour,1 lunch and ferry ticket.

You may oso ask for other hair treatment service. Definately cheaper than s'pore.

Infact, i've brought several of my friends there and they were very happy with the service.
Do drop me a mail if you are interested.

Great Landscape around Batam

by bkarjee

Another of the3 great views around Batam Islands. At the far end is the second of the series of the Barelang bridges. Only the first bridge looks beautiful in terms of architecture. Rest of the bridges are just normasl, but again, the views are great

Views of Batam from the Air

by victorwkf

If you are taking a plane to Batam and land on the Hang Nadim Airport, you will be able to see beautiful views of the island and the surrounding Riau Islands on a clear and sunny day. From the air, Batam island looks rather flat and heavily developed areas (with de-forestation) can be seen near the Hang Nadim Airport area. This is because the island is rapidly developing, especially with cooperation from neigbouring Singapore.

Batam View from ferry

by bkarjee

This is the view you get when you are leaving or approaching Batam Centre Ferry Terminal. The giant supermarkets Hypermart and Matahari were visible from the ferry. Actually Batam centre is an excellent place for shopping. There are numerous new shopping malls. It is also a suitable ferry terminal for alighting to visit any of the Nagoya city based Hotels.

the boat ride from Singapore to Batam

by rajitravel

Batam is best reached via Singapore if you are travelling from most of the rest of the world. You can get to various ferry terminals in Batam from Singapore's Harbour Front ferry terminal (previously known as the World Trade Centre), namely Waterfront, Sekupang and Batam Centre. Ferries from Singapore's Tanah Merah ferry terminal takes you to Nongsa.
