Hotel Losari Beach: Right on the Esplanade
The name Losari Beach is synonymous with image of Makassar, and anyone seeing Makassar for the first time should spend one night in hotel at the beach front.
In that vicinity, all the hotels were large and the room prices exceeded our expectation. At last, we made enquiry at Losari but it fully booked. One day, through another walk-in chance, we found one vacant room. We checked the condition of the room. Well it almost perfect with one snag, with the heavy bookings, the room with 2 single beds were no longer available. But we love the location and of course have to get use to the hotel too.
With a single twin bed, the room obviously appeared more spacious, but it the same as there was enough walking room beside the bed. The bathroom faces the bed.
The room was at the end of the corridor and passing the air well that was also the central shaft from the coffee house through all floors. Insulation was good as we weren't disturbed by the street noises. Our room did not have any window. No sea view for us.
This room also came with Breakfast for two, welcome cocktail plus a free foot massage for one person.
The best part of our stay in this hotel was its location. Very good and everything we needed, food sight seeing, checking out activities on the beach every now and then, just walk across the road.
The staff were very friendly, in fact we get to know the manager, down to receptionist in very short time. Though very low staff strength, there would be someone on hand to lend a ear.
I cannot think of anything that I want to see improved and for those visiting Makassar on a maiden trip and with a budget in mind, I would say this hotel is the best place.
1] Its centralised location.
2] staff projected a "warm" feeling
3] Right on the beach for sunset, actions at all times.
4] Value for money pricing
5] Easy to locate

Hotel Dinasti: Chinaman Hotel - compact & well managed
The frontage was deliberating made to project that oriental look. Once inside, this narrow hotel about the width of 2 shoplots, is the foyer that has a small waiting area on the right followed by the reception .
The left side is the dining area and food counters. Behind the restaurant is the lift to the room. Conference area is on 4th floor and spa on the 5th.
Though compact the place did not appear congested. I think I was given special treatment [breakfast which was supplied with all bookings was there], I was given a lunch too.
A superior room, with 2 single bed for the 2 of us was well furnished and had all the facilities we expected. Not very big but definately comfortable and we both could move around with ease. Recalling some the rooms style in Tokyo.
This is the only 3 stars Hotel in Chinatown. There was a misundertsanding on our booking and we were without a room on the next evening. The hotel staff volunteered to assist us in looking for alternative accomodation as replacement.
Of course, there weren't none as all rooms in this level of pricing Rupees 350,000 were fully booked. We had a friend in town who accompanied us in searching, and confirmed the hotel finding.
We stay in another Hotel the next day. This next hotel was larger establishment and we could immediately see the differences. The manner the building and rooms are maintained.
I would go back to them on my next trip to Makassar.
1] Courtesy and attentiveness of the staff
2] Fittings and placement of objects inside the hotel kept in an orderly and tidy manner.
3] Good spread for breakfast
4] Prompt attention in handling compliant
5] comfortable room

Hotel Yasmin: Small but comfy ....
My room is not so big, but comfy and clean. Nice and accessible to several tourist sports like Chinatown and Fort Rotterdam.
Small room, small rest-room but I found it's nice and good price!

Legend hostel: simple, cheap and friendly
In Makassar i recomend Legend Hostel. It isn’t luxurious, but it is quiet yet very central, it is fairly clean, cheap and friendly. The staff are helpfull, or at least the part i usually met, the eveningstaff. It was most of the time a man, speaking english very well. When i asked about something, he allways had the right answer. In the hotel there is several cathegories of rooms, and a dormitory at the topfloor. Here is a collection of tipbooks written by travellers.
