Go shopping go shopping go shopping. Plus if u smoke, cool. i smoke, because 1 pack of cigarettes is about 80c australian traffic jams, man where they bad, a normal 20 min drive can easily turn into a 1hr 30min carpark, that and a live leopard sitting on my lap in the wildlife safari between Bundung and Jakarta. Very cool stuff when a leopard stares straight into your eyes and then gives you a lick on the cheek. Was thinking 'WHAT dinner already, but it's only 3 in the afternoon.'
Durian Vendors on street
by rmiya84778
In Indonesia there is an exotic, tropical fruit named 'Durian'. First time I visited Jakarta I was
intrigued when I see at markets and stalls. Durian (Durio zibethinus) are native to South East Asia and require a year round, warm, very humid,
climate. This fruit is covered with hard spines
and exudes a strong, but not sour smell
when opened. To open a durian you need sharp, stout knife. Durians have about five segments when cut open with each containing several seeds. These seeds are surrounded by a custard-like aril. The taste differs depending on when picked. It is pungent, sour taste that was very strange when I tried. Yucky to me. Must be very popular in Indonesia for just about everywhere you go you see them for sale.
Durian are rare outside South East Asia, and they are probably expensive when available? I have never seen Durian before so I got to experiance
new fruit. I dont like taste!
Packing List

Indonesia has two weather seasons, rainy and hot. This country has tropical type weather so temperture is mostly humid with overcast skies ocassionaly. When it rains, it is still humid outside.I had to ask when I first visited this country. Pack or bring clothing for hot weather, cotton type or casual clothing. I have also been advised that in certain places, you have to be careful how you dress. (mosques, temples or religious places and shrines) Fuji film for 35mm camera readily available at most camera shops.210 volts electricty used so converter may be needed for any batter charger that use 110volts? I ran into this problem in Korea and blew my up my battery charger for my digital camera. In Jakarta, I had plenty of extra batteries, fully charged before I arrived. Bring sunscreen and lip balm. A hat also?
Pest repeliant recomended too. I had problems with insect bites.
When in Jakarta, do like...
by Goldenboy
When in Jakarta, do like Jakartans. Pulau Seribu (Thousand Islands), in the Jakarta Bay and on the northern coast of the city, is a popular weekend retreat. Bounty-like islands are offering not only white sandy beaches, crystal clear water and tranquility away from the busy city, but also great fishing, snorkeling and diving.
From Jakarta it will take less than one hour to get to the Puncak pass (the peak), from which visitors have a bird-eyeview of lazy rolling hills blanketed with lush green tea plantations, a commodity for which Indonesia has a claim for fame for more than 300 years. Taman Safari, where the legendary Sumatran tiger roams around in a genuine jungle environment, enables you to discover Indonesia’s rich natural heritage up close. The Puncak area is also the most popular weekend or holiday retreat for Jakarta people, who are trying to flee the sometimes shimmering heat of the city.
Souvenirs in luxurious shops
by Goldenboy about Pasaraya Grande
Located just next to Blok M bus station, this huge shopping center stocks hundreds of fashion labels, from classics designers to trendy labels. Previously known for its huge range of shoes, sport section and amazing selection of batik, handicrafts and home décorations. The Grande Cineplex here is well and also the bowling alley. But it has small range of decent food and beverages outlets. Anyway, this is the the place to get your souvenirs of Indonesia, ikat, handicraft and many more.
