Spanish elegance
The Jakarta property of the Spanish hotel chain Melia Sol, opened in 1996 and was much talk about due to its striking lobby interior. Apart from featuring a striking, five-storey high atrium lobby, the Gran Melia also offers one of the largest guest rooms I've ever seen, all decorated tastefully as you would expect from a top-rated 5 star hotels. The hotel also features a resort-syle pool area which provides an oasis right in the middle of hot and humid Jakarta. The hotel has many restaurants, most notably are its coffee shops, which serves one of the sumptuous buffets in Jakarta and the Kelts Irish pub, which is always frequented on weekends by Irish expats and locals alike. The hotel's ballroom is also very popular with high society weddings and functions.
Location-wise, the hotel is located on the Southern end of Kuningan area, close to the Embassy row and the Mega Kuningan Business District. The hotel is also linked to an office complex, which also houses Marche, the popular Swiss-based eatery.

Relax luxuriousely
Stayed for a couple of nights .
Quite expensive - but the service is good . Spacious and comfortable rooms . Not much of a recreation activity ( ie. if you want to have fun ) . more suited for elderly people who would like some peace .

Too grand for me
Though this hotel is the nearest to my office in Jakarta, I don't feel comfortable staying here. From the outside and when you step in, grandeur oozes everywhere. For me, it's too much to take.
In the room, the "grandness" continues as the furnishings are European inspired with big heavy woody furniture and dark sombre colours. Somehow I feel bogged down staying here.
I guess my preference is for light airy rooms with minimalist furnishings, more zen like if you will to calm the senses.
Not my cup of tea.
