get arround the Jakarta City
by putri_jogja
Hi,
U can stay in Central Jakarta (near Sarinah Mall). There r plenty hotel such as Ibis.
Jakarta is big city. Only mall and mall.. but u can go to one area. We call it old town. If u like doing photograph, i suggest you to go there. Take bus Transjakarta (Busway) to Kota (end of station). Then take a walk to the old town. you can hire taxi bicycle to go around the old town. I dunno for sure the cost. Maybe 20,000 - 30,000 IDR. Juz bargain it.
Transport for taking around Jakarta, u can take bus transjakarta (busway) coz it is connected to many area around jakarta. Or take taxi. Plz take Blue Bird Taxi (name of taxi) but be carefull, many taxi with blue color but not Blue Bird taxi.

Hello
Reliable is a funny word in Indonesia. If you are staying at a decent hotel, i would ask them to help you. You will have a better chance of getting a decent driver since you stayed at their hotel they are more interested in helping you. But no guarantee.Rates will depend on many things like the type of car etc. Make sure you get the total costs on paper. You may have to pay for gas, drivers meals etc. Usually the driver wil sleep in the vehicle. The hotel should be able to get you a driver cheaper than a travel agent. Everyone knows someone.

Bandung is the mother city of West java. its about 200 Km from Jakarta (2.5 hours driving). it's a place in a high surface from other place above, it's surrounded by many mountains. there are some great places that you need to go, such as Pangalengan, Lembang, Tangkuban Perahu Mount, and many else.
due to your question, i had some suggestion of car rent include the 24 hours Driver.

Travel Tips for Jakarta
A city of many religions
by latte18
Being the capital city of the country with the largest muslim population in the world, naturally Jakarta is dominated by Muslims. But, that doesn't stop Jakartans to practice other religions peacefully.
There are tons of mosques in Jakarta, tucked in every corner of the city, but other worship places are abundant. Churces in different sizes and styles for Catholics and Protestants alike, Hindu temples, Bhuddist's Vihara, even traditional Chinese worship places.
Although the recent crisis brought rifts and frictions to the harmonious condition of Indonesians' religious life, Jakartans can still practice their religions fairly peacefully. This is witnessed in the celebration of Christmas or Chinese New Year, which in recent years were celebrated as vibrant as the Lebaran, the biggest Muslim holiday. The harmony in Jakartans' religious life can be seen from the location of the biggest mosque and church in the city. Istiqlal, southeast asia's biggest mosque, is located in a complex just across from the Catholic Cathedral. Moreover, during Christmas Eve Mass, worshippers can park their cars on the Mosque's parking lot and vice versa during the Lebaran.
Uniques lingo! Normally we use...
by ukirsari
Uniques lingo! Normally we use bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian lingo), but in Jakarta, Betawi dialect and bahasa gaul (slank lingo) involved to the standar Indonesian all-together. It makes something new and different in hearing and sometimes the meaning.
Here I enclosed several 'bahasa gaul' which used daily.
I (English): saya (Indonesian) : gue, aku, aye, akika (bahasa gaul)
You: anda: kamu, elu, ente
Good morning: selamat pagi: 'met pagi
Good evening: selamat malam: 'met malam
Nice to meet you: senang berjumpa dengan anda: hai 'bro!
Take care: hati-hati: titi deejay (acronym from 'hati-hati di jalan')
See you: sampai jumpa: ketemu lagi yaw
Trully sorry if I made mistake: maaf bila saya berbuat kesalahan: kalo ade saleh maapin aye
I'm sorry: maafkan saya: maapin aye
Finish: sudah, selesai: sutra, kelar 'bo
Yes: ya: iye, yo-i
No: tidak: nggak, gak, enggak
(further, you can ask me anytime :D)
The Thousand Islands National Park
by biawak
If you need to get out of the hustle and bustle of Jakarta, try the Taman Nasional Pulau Seribu (The Thousand Islands National Park). There's actually only about 300 islands there, the closest being only about 15 minutes boat ride from the Marina in Ancol. Check out my Pulau Seribu travelogues ( Pulau Pari and Pulau Panggang ) for photos.
