Visa on arrival
by swancity
Yes, it's legit. You buy/pay visa on arrival in Jkt, it's located before reaching the immigration line. I think it's still $25 US valid only 1 month, can't be extended unles you go out of the country and reenter again or penalty $20 per day on remaining days stayed in Ind.

Selamat pagi = good...

Selamat pagi = good morning
Apa kabar = how do you do
Terima kasih = thank you
Do not hug or kiss, especially to the opposite sex.
For some moslems women, touching the opposite sex is forbidden, so do not feel offended.
Head is the most important parts of the body, and for most Indonesian, touching the head is the sign of unpoliteness and rude.

Taking the bus from Tanah Abang to Block M for my shopping experience was indeed a good experience.
I cant remember where was it but it just before a junction within Jakarta city after passing the Sendayan complex where most busses stop to pick up more passengers.
While waiting, there are some small time sellers come up the bus to sell drinks, tissues etc.
The thing unique was, one guy come up the bus I ride with a guitar in his hand. He start playing one Indonesian song - cant remember the title - but its one of the famous song by the Indonesian band - DEWA.
I believed it is one of typical scene since the driver did not chase the person down.
After he finished singing, he will inform his name with an empty plastic in his hand where he expected some token from the passengers.
You are not oblige to give but why not? After all you have just listen to a famous song by a famous bus singer
Shopping in Plaza Indonesia
by perseushermes about Plaza Indonesia
The plaza is located adjacent to the Grand Hyatt. Getting there can be a breeze with the Busway (Rp2500 flat price) or by cab which may cost you a bit depending on the traffic congestion ("meajit" in Indonesian) The plaza houses the anchor tenant - Sogo and various upmarket brands from LV to CD. If you are looking for slightly cheaper goods, this is not the plaza. Bargains can be obtained from the Polo shops, Debenhams or Sogo (when there are on sale).
Word of caution - At closing time, there are a shortage of cabs at Plaza Indonesia.
Suggestion - Get cabs at the Grand Hyatt (you can walk thru level 3) get the Silver Bird Taxis - they are reliable
Overview of Jakarta The items can be pricey
