Travel Tips for Jakarta

There are two items here that deserve special attention and neither one is technically in Jakarta. Taman Safari. Located outside it is a wildlife park which is surprisingly pleasant to visit. See Travelogue
Tea Plantations. Also a bit of way outside, it is a relief to get into the mountains and enjoy the scenery. It is beautiful and peaceful. See Travelogue

The most amusing part of living anywhere that is foreign to you, are the 'misunderstandings' created by language barriers. One of my colleagues who was learning to speak Indonesian felt that one of our female co-workers had failed to convey the bad news to the boss ina meeting. He called her a 'chicken' (in the English slang sense of coward) but used the Indonesian word for chicken ('ayam'). He was surprised by her outrage until it was explained to him that the slang meaning of 'ayam' is 'whore.'

Go Check Out A Live Volcano

by Travworld

Drive about 3 hours west and a little bit south , and you'll be in the town of Charita ,but beware they don't see very many tourists and everyone in town has something for sale. When on the beach only bring your towel and shoes and head straight into the water or you will be hounded by people selling things , and if you decide to bargain expect to pay about 40% less than what they offer, the surf is strong ,but feels great. While there try to bargain with someone who approach's you to take you to see Ana Kracatau The new Volcano that formed after the last one blew up some 125 years ago ,usually a maximum of 6 can go , and they will say its $250.00 per trip well you can bargain down to about 200.00 or 1.8 million rupiah. We got to bargain with water and rice for lunch as well as scuba/snorkeling included. You will need alot of water as it is a hot steep climb to reach the top. If they say you can't go to the top go up without your guide. Its worth it. Allow 1 hour and 45 minutes to the island if the seas are good as well as the same getting back and 2 hours on the Volcano as well as at least 90 minutes for snorkling/scuba diving. While looking for hotels shop around some have strict rates while others can bargain a bit. And there are no big hotels there only small ones that have 10-15 rooms, although farther north they do have some that are convention hotels, but expect to pay handsomely .have fun and good luck on your adventure to see a Live Volcano.

Show Must Go On?

by RoyJava about PLAZA INDONESIA

This exquisite mall is the extravagance of Oriental exterior which punches the Western spirit in the middle of its inner-purse. When visiting Luar Batang don't come here afterwards! You'll faint ...

It is PLAZA INDONESIA, actually a shopping mall for the rich and famous! Well, maybe the sophisticated-likes, too. Right in the business area at Jl. Thamrin, and connected to the luxurious Grand Hyatt Hotel. I heard a live outside broadcast is live on-air everyday with famies, include a talk show. A lot of visitors standing along the railings of the atrium on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floor, and will applaud. The PLAZA INDONESIA should be very gay friendly, too. A great place to take a seat and watch passers-by. Good to know huh?

Want to buy some great souvenirs, see >>>
Sogo Seni Handicraft Center - 2nd floor
Batik Keris showroom - 1st floor
Toko Ampuh - Indonesian traditional medicines - basement
Guys,... find origins of Boss, Versace, Cartier, Gucci ... in PLAZA INDONESIA Don't embarrass me please ... ;-)
