Mid point of the City
Great place to stay.
Firstly, its in the middle of the main shopping plazas of Plaza Senayan, Plaza Indonesia and Plaza Semanggi.
No problem getting taxis. The Silver Bird taxis are readily available at the driveway. The Blue Bird Taxis can be obtained too - just ask the Slightly Heavy Bell Hop who looks like Baloo (in the Jungle Book ) in a suit. A very friendly guy and very helpful too (esp helpfull after slipping a Rp3000 tip)
Superb Front desk service and the staff is always smiling, helping the guests in their "unusual needs" eg pressing the lift buttons, ever ready to get you the newspaper which you missed and friendly service. If you chat with bellhops in Bahasa Indonesia, you'll have a very interesting conversation in Bahasa Indonesia, of course.
While I was there, there were countless functions from embassy officials celebrating their national day to wedding ceremonies. Some look like movie stars
The rooms are nicely "packaged" to fit your ever needs. Every day, without fail, and even though you have yet to "utilise" that bar of soap, bottle of shampoo or body lotion, mouthwash, bath gel - YOU WILL ALWAYS GET A FRESH SET. Unlike some hotels which the housekeeoig are under strict instrctions not to provide fresh bottles unless utilised.
If you want to be adventurous, you can take the Busway at the "Setia Budi" stop which is about 800 to 900 metres away from the hotel. Pay Rp2500 and Off you go to Plaza Indonesia. You can't do that for Plaza Senayan though.
A definite place to stay for elegance and convenience.
Unique Quality: The restaurants at the hotel offers choices for your taste buds. From Lebanese to Japanese to the good old American Grill
The breakfast at the Brasserie is nicely done too. You can just have the nicest breakfast (without overstuffing yourself) and have a relaxing time.

Top class hotel
I stayed there twice in 2004. A couple of the facilities were closed for renovation the second time, but it is still a fantastic hotel. They are very friendly, the rooms are luxurious and the food (esp breakfast) is top class. Good club (Tiga Puluh) downstairs too (although it depends on the band).
I will never forget the performance of Eminem's "Lose Yourself" by the band Lock Down in April 2004 - it was fantastic. They are the best covers band I've ever seen.
Nice swimming pool.
Internet access from the business centre is expensive. Get a taxi to the Pasaraya shopping centre for cheap internet access and a huge selection of restaurants/fast food. It's around 10 mins away.

An exquisite high standard hotel with all extras including a beautiful outdoor swimming pool, fancy restaurans, etc.

Jakarta has many various types...
Jakarta has many various types of accomodations. From five stars types *****, four stars ****, three stars *** or melati types. Also hostels and youth hostels. Highly recommended is Santika Hotel, owned by Gramedia Publishing Company --place where I am working as Journo ;) Anothers; Hotel Indonesia, Grand Hyatt, Mandarin Oriental, Sheraton, Le Meridien Jakarta, JW Marriott Hotel, Sahid Hotel, Horison, Shangri-La, Red Top, Novotel and a nice one --melati type-- which I often spend my weekend time there; Sofyan Hotel Betawi at Menteng (nearby the old buildings, see my travelogues 'Old Menteng').
Unique Quality: Traditional hospitality, traditional uniforms and traditional foods and beverages.

Escape the hecticness
This is my favourite hotel when I'm visiting Jakarta on business. It's centrally located in the financial district, not too far away from my agency's office and from the malls (Mall Taman Anggerik etc.)
The rooms are spacious and so are the bathrooms. It's a small hotel where the staff are friendly and helpful. What I love most is the spa which has well-appointed treatment rooms, jacuzzi and steam bath.
The pool is lovely with a touch of Bali. I'm always apprehensive about hotel food but the Lebanese restaurant and buffet breakfast serve yummy stuff!

Old and tired
The Le Meridien is in dire need of a refurb. The rooms are small and the furnishings are old and awful. The room was dirty with mould in the shower and stray hairs on the floor in the bathroom.
The main brasserie style restaurant has been refurbed and was pleasant enough. The Thai restaurant was horrible, however the Lebanese restaurant was very nice (also newly refurbed).
I'm not sure if they plan to re-fit the entire property, but it would be an advantage to do so.
Unique Quality: Swimming pool is nice, and was a break from the heat.
Le Meridien does have an excellent day spa. Enjoyed a massage there. Prices of the spa pretty resonable.
