Must See places in Jakarta
by itchyfeet529
Hi, i want to want to know the places of interest in Jakarta, the "MUST SEE". My friends and I will just be there for a short period, maybe around 5 days only. So we want to see the the top rated beautiful places. Your reply will be highly appreacited...

Nothing worthwhile to see in the capital, the traffic alone could consume your time. If I were you, I'd rather spend the 5 days in Yogyakarta and Bali. Just use the Sukarno airport for transit to these places.

Hello
Jakarta is huge city so some people dont know where the "must see" places are. Taman mini is nice but you have to see the Monas of course. Make sure you visit the downstairs area also. Another must see in the same area is the National Museum. Traffic is bad just like in any other large city so avoid the rush hours and it is not that bad. Bogor, which is basically south Jakarta now has a great botanical garden. Do some research and you will find many things to do and see in Jakarta.

Travel Tips for Jakarta
jalan jaksa: jakarta's khao san road
by Rastarigo
are you a backpacker? cheapskate? low-profile traveler? then welcome home to jalan jaksa, the main backpacker street in Jakarta. cheap rooms, homey resto, travel agencies yeah you will find them here. you are close to gambir for one making it convenient for mobility. public transport is reasonably well-catered for with the main Gambir railway station and north to south busway running along Sudirman-Thamrin Road, for journeys not covered by the busway taxis are cheap and plentiful.

Jakarta's 3-in-1 car passenger policy
by rmiya84778
My fiance explained to me that in Jakarta, there is a law that requires 'three-in-one area's or three passengers in one car. You are not allowed to drive by yourself in high traffic areas during certain period of day. (probably rush hour when people are coming to work and at end of day when going home) Jakarta people have a way to get around this. What they do is hire people off street for position of 'car passenger or jockey'. For a fee of Rp 1,000 to Rp 2,000 gets you thru these areas that are off limits. People make a living doing this?
Ghosts or Gh-ossips
by cometojakarta
Places like the Ancol Bridge (Hantu Jembatan Ancol), which is still believed to be haunted by a girl who was raped and murdered there. She is seen walking on the bridge in the night wearing a white dress. Old buildings, like the Jakarta History Museum which is was the city hall during the Dutch colonial administration, is believed to be haunted by ghosts because it was the site of hangings by the Dutch of Indonesian and Chinese prisoners. The Cipto Mangunkusomo Hospital (Jakarta) is another reputed ghost sighting locale where at night a doctor is seen with a surgery knife and hands covered with blood with nurses screaming for help. There is no actual proof of the existence of these ghosts, but local people have claimed to see them.
INDO CRAFT in Jakarta
by Goldenboy about SARINAH
Its a one stop shopping collection of locals souvenirs house! Strategically located in central area of Jakarta, opposite of Djakarta Theatre Building. If you only have limited time, this place is the best then. Hard Rock Café, Chilis Restaurant, Stardust Niteclub are also in this area. Very close to Jalan Jaksa, where many backpackers hotel are. Sarinah has an excellent selection of handicrafts, clothes, stationary, books etc., in tourist price though :) Depens on your budget. You can have some souvenirs in USD 10
