transportation to and from airport

by jlpt69

I am an individual traveller, it is widely said that the traffic to and from the airport of Jakarta is very chotic and jammed. Then I would like to be advised on how many hours should I reserve if I come from Central jakarta by airport bus and taxi?
Is the airport bus reliable?

Hi,
It's true that Jakarta traffic is very chaotic in some time, so I ussualy spare 4 hours before departure time (2 hours for the journey to the airport and 2 hours for check in).
Since you live in Central Jakarta, I suggest to take airport bus from Gambir Station. That bus depart every 15 minutes. The bus is reliable, but, again, it depends on the traffic....;D
Have a nice day

For Jakarta traffic, you should have an allowance of two hours travel time either by bus or taxi to the airport.

You should spare at least 4 hours from Central Jakarta to Airport, and do not take freeway (Tanjung Priok - Soekarno Hatta) vice versa, there's a heavy reconstruction toward Soekarno Hatta direction.

I suggest you take a taxi (Blue Bird Group) so if you get unlucky and stuck, you could ask the taxi driver to find another way of perhaps a shortcut before get into the Soekarno Hatta freeway.

Hi,
On Tuesday May 6th this year I got the DAMRI airport bus from outside Gambir station at 2pm and it took about 1 hr 15 minutes to get to the airport.
I am not sure if I was lucky or if that is the usual length of time it takes.

Re: transportation to and from airport

Bus fare from the airport via air-conditioned Damri cost me IDR20,000.00. One of Damri's destination is Gambir (Train Station). From there you are near Gunung Sahari Raya but you still need a taxi ride (short but through traffic) from Gambir.

BTW, which hotel are you refering to?

Travel Tips for Jakarta

International Phone Calls

by traveldream

Normal

To make international phone calls from Jakarta from ordinary/fixed phones, you can easily dial 001 or 008 before the country code. 001 is operated by Telkom, and 008 by Indosat. There are also other prefix number(s), you can ask your hotel.

Budget

If you want to save more money, you can use an international calling card. There are many calling cards with slightly different tariff. Make sure you check the tariff for calls to the specific country before you buy the calling card. Remember to check if the tariff already includes 10% VAT. Some calling card companies include that, and some don't - which probably makes you feel a bit cheated.

If you will use the calling card from a mobile phone, make sure that it supports dialling from mobile phones before you buy it.

Where to buy: Phone cards booths/kiosks in shopping centres.

Even cheaper

If you have a CDMA phone, you can buy a sim card of an operator called Esia. It offers discount fare for international calls to 25 countries (by adding # before country code), for only Rp 1,188/min. (Current rate US$ 1 = +/- Rp 10,000) This offer is valid til 31 December 2005.

Country list:
- Asia-Pasific: Australia, Cina, Hongkong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan.
- Europe: Austria, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, UK, Germany, Norway, France, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland.
- USA, Canada, Hawaii, Alaska, Canary Island

Women beware, the men will stare at you openly and will not be ashamed even if you let them know that you are not pleased that they are looking! So dress modestly or do not be surprised if you are stared at.

by Sheemoz about Sogo

it's the asian most common shopping mall.. the most interesting thing for an architect like me its unique design and the good manner and of course the well decorative entrances and cafe's ...
The non stop shopping there is Sogo.. and guess what!!? good products and less prices than the standard !! .. if u want to buy such an electronic stuff or women sandals and shoes this is ur destination .. and also the jweleries r amazing... but the problem is if u wear M in ur country u'll find ur size is XL in this country .. they r realy small people .. Cutie :D as i 've said .. electronics ... also Bambo sitting sets and timber works.. some antiques .. and if u like PS or Xbox games like mee dont waste ur time... buy as mucha s u can .. the CDs are not original but they works pretty good.. also i advice women to buy Sandals from there... very unique designs and good quality.. what else? buy everything except clothes.. clothes r small here but everything either is good!
