Hi all,

I would like to rent a saloon car, 7 days, from 07/02/10 to 13/02/10 for two adults with a driver.

The journey will be from Jakarta (One day), Bogor (One day), Puncak (One day), Bandung (4 days).

One company quoted me 550,000 rupiah per day plus accomodation for the driver at 50,000 per day. Is this price acceptable?

by divadownunder

usually rates for a 7-seater van such as toyota avanza or suzuki apv are around IDR 400K per day inclusive of petrol etc
there's a company i've used for office assignments :
contact person either Rien or Bowo on +6281318187821
since you're going to be using for quite a while, i think you should be able to negotiate a lower price

Exploring the three main...

by ukirsari

Exploring the three main roads in the downtown to see Jakarta in modern side. Their names are; Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Jalan Mohammad Husni Thamrin and Jalan Gatot Subroto. Many new skycrapers as trade-mark of the city are situated there. Gedung (gedung means building) Danamon at Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Deutsche Bank at Jalan Diponegoro (close to Jalan Mohammad Husni Thamrin), Gedung LIPI at Jalan Gatot Subroto, Gedung Dharmala Sakti (proclaimed as one of the five most beautiful skycrapers in the world), etc.

Packing List

by ukirsari

Big travel bag and daily pack (backpacker). The temperature quite hot and the middle of June it can be very hot, so preparing thin t-shirt and cargo pants will necessary. Plus hat and small-compact umbrella. Sport gears and hiking sandals for weekend. Formal shoes for any occasion plus several shocks according to the temperature.
Meanwhile, for clothing as I descript it above, you can bring extra t-shirt (thin). Jeans can make you feel comfort also and if you feel too hot, change it with cargo pants or short pants. Tissues and wet tissues (beware with great polution on the main streets). Vitamin C and aspirin. Also sunblock with high SPF. Use your backpack and hiking sandal as I mentioned above. Adding with parachutes jacket and hat. Plus mosquito lotion (but don't think something horrible about these mosquitos in the beach).

Budget DVDs at Ratu Plaza

by latte18 about Ratu Plaza

The new Indonesian copyright laws notwithstanding, pirated DVDs trade are alive and kicking at the Ratu Plaza. If you're in town and looking for bargain DVDs, then a visit to this mall near the Sudirman Central Business District is a must. On the 4th floor you will find a whole floor dedicated to high quality pirated DVDs from Hollywood latest blockbusters, past Oscar winners, European artsy flicks, Chinese soaps, even the latest season of Sex and The City, you name it, they've got it.

What's more, the sellers are honest about the quality of the DVDs and let you try them on their DVD players before you decide what to buy. What's more important is the unbelievable price of Rp 15,000 (about USD 1.75) for a locally-made DVD and Rp 20,000 (about USD 2.50) for imported ones from Hong Kong. The place is teeming with locals and expats alike and can be packed during weekends. No Air Conditioning means you have to sweat it out while hunting for your favorite movies.

If DVDs are not your thing, then this mall is filled with furniture shops, computer and electronic sellers and also features Dome, the Australian-based coffee shop chain and an internet cafe that is always packed with backpackers. DVDs
